Just published the first chapter of my PhD on remote fossil site detection using satellite images & #unsupervisedlearning in @GorongosaPark with my supervisors @paleobob @carvalhoprimate

It is #openaccess at

@primobevolab @oxford_anthro @PeerJLife 1/n
The paper starts by exploring the spatial and temporal gaps of the #primate & #hominid fossil record of Africa in the late #Miocene. @GorongosaPark in #Mozambique is shown to be a strategic location, with great potential to fill some major gaps in #paleoanthropology 2/n
We also discuss the difficulties of surveying for new paleontological localities, specially within modern forests/woodlands as in #Gorongosa, since dense vegetation cover reduces visibility (i.e. finding clues in topography and landscape). 3/n

Wearing a mask can help mitigate the super spreading phenomena:
We should also be on the lookout for asymptomatic cases, as they can significantly contribute in adding to infections, should they go unchecked; We need more testing in general, as well as of asymptomatics:

Hello #dendrites friends! Check out our new paper, published at @NatureComms : "Challenging the point neuron dogma: FS basket cells as 2-stage neural networks.…
Briefly, we predicted through #computational simulations that the #dendrites of #Fast_spiking #interneurons in #Hippocampal #CA3 and #PFC areas come in two #nonlinear flavors: Supralinear and sublinear!
This bimodal nonlinear behavior is determined by differences in the morphology (volume) of the dendritc branches. These differences can causally enable or prohibit the existence of #sodium_spikes. Interestingly, both types coexist in all model neurons tested!
