Morning yall. That #friendbreakup tweet is still going. It’s striking a chord with a lot of folks. I’ve tried to share resources as they get suggested, but my mentions are pretty chaotic right now.
In the last day & a half I’ve gained 2k new followers so I just want to say hi & welcome to the new folks. I tweet about everything from my academic work & teaching to pop culture& pleasure activism from my perspective as a fat Black queer polyamorous woman with chronic pain.
Some things you’ll see commonly: 1. #collectyourcousins (calls for typically white or straight folks to come educate one of their own who is engaging with me but not getting it). I do not encourage my followers to harass but actually try to help people learn with kindness.

Y’all come get these fucking white women right the fuck now. #collectyourcousins.
This is the second white woman to pop up with this tweet from February today. I am not in the mood for this fuckery.

It’s cute how fast white people hide after they call me racists & I ask other white people to educate them.

I got invited to a (black queer woman) friend’s bachelorette. Her (white straight) maid of honor asked folks to send money in advance for some of the things she has planned. Cool. Fine. Except this is her Venmo profile pic.
You better believe I just messaged my friend & her fiancée like, Yo, check your friend. This is an IRL #collectyourcousins going down right now in my life bc you can’t expect me to show up & party with this woman this weekend unless she has been checked on this.
I know white/straight folks can’t dispose of every single one of your problematic friends & family members, but I believe that it’s the responsibility of privileged folks to warn friends & intervene when your person acts a fool.

Can we for real make #collectyourcousins a thing? Black folks are constantly collecting their cousins bc 1 black person acting a fool can have far reaching consequences for all of us. White folks don’t seem to feel as implicated by the failures or foolishness of other white folks
I propose #collectyourcousins as a call to allies to come respond to racist (sexist, cissexist, ableist, homophobic) comments by similarly identified people. White women collecting white women. Straight men collecting straight men. Cis folks collecting cis folks.
The appeal of #collectyourcousins in two-fold for me. 1: Privileged folks often respond defensively especially to marginalized folks calling them on such privilege or ignorance. They have a harder time being dismissive of folks with shared identities.
