Thank you @POTUS for the opportunity to provide an update on America’s #COVID19 response. Thanks to close cooperation with state and local partners, we are making progress against the virus and towards a safe reopening.

More from my comments in Dallas, TX 👇
Through strong public private partnerships, America has now conducted more than 20 million tests, with a positive rate of under 6% nationally over the last week - well under the 10% rate we hope to see from a public health perspective.
This has happened in part thanks to our opening of 494 community-based testing sites, including through the work of private sector partners and the #USPHS #CommissionedCorps. 70% of those sites are located in socially vulnerable areas.

As America’s Health Responders, #USPHS #CommissionedCorps officers are continuing to deploy to communities across America to assist in the state and local #COVID19 response.
If you are worried about contracting #coronavirus, the best way to protect yourself and your community is to follow the basic #PublicHealth practices – wash your hands; don’t touch your face; social distance; and self-isolate if you feel sick.

This weekend marks 1 year since the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California. I’m proud of the work done by our #USPHS #CommissionedCorps officers, who provided critical mental health services to displaced residents and those in crisis.
My fellow officers screened & helped care for a diverse array of vulnerable people, provided specialized counseling, and supported development of behavioral health training programs for impacted populations.
Despite the tragedy, our officers witnessed an incredible spirit of recovery and rebirth. One of the then-shelter residents drew this phoenix with the words “Paradise” and “Magalia” – affected areas of California. #SaturdayThoughts Image

In 2014, the #CommissionedCorps was on the front lines of the Ebola outbreak – staffing a 25-bed field hospital where officers provided care to healthcare workers exposed to or actively infected with the Ebola virus.
I wanted to make absolutely certain that all who passed through these halls would remember and honor their service. I could not think of a better place for this wall than here – the very crossroads of #PublicHealth and the #CommissionedCorps.

Did you know the United States Public Health Service began as a Service created to provide for the establishment of hospitals for sick and disabled seamen?
On July 16, 1798 the Fifth Congress passed an Act, signed by President John Adams, providing for the care and treatment of merchant seamen and thus began the story of the United States Public Health Service.
Since its creation, the #USPHS #CommissionedCorps has become a public health leader by promoting prevention initiatives, health education programs, environmental health techniques, research, and treatment to increase life expectancy by over 30 years.
