@dongho_chang or anybody else that knows, Is there a LOS requirement for đźš— on the NHS (e.g., Grand Avenue/State Route 27, within the Pullman city limits in Washington state)? If yes, is there an LOS requirement for people walking/cycling/rolling? Is LOS desire-based or required?

@USDOTFHWA Memorandum:

“Although States may adopt LOS standards in their design manuals, FHWA does not have regulations or policies that require specific minimum LOS values for projects on the NHS.”

At tomorrow’s #PullmanCityCouncil mtg, Welch Comer will tell the Council that @WSDOT_East basically would prioritize LOS for cars & likely require the @City_if_Pullman removes parking on Grand to transition it into 4 lanes! (I doubt it!)

$154.8m for a new travel lane for motorists in each direction.

Sure hope we can get @NashFinance to release to @NashvillePW the $75-$100k it would take to add a protected bike lane to 3rd Ave N for a new modal pathway downtown!

#CompleteStreets infrastructure is safe and cheap.
@NashFinance @NashvillePW This is the perfect time to offer better infrastructure support for a mode that’s seeing a surge in demand, especially when it’s so inexpensive, already fully planned, and requires no more procedural work.

This will be an important moment for Nashville: the recognition that parking is neither a policy requirement (downtown) nor an actual requirement.

My prediction? The project will be extremely successful.
Walking distance to multiple grocery options, 75,000 jobs, a variety of entertainment options, open space, and nearby entry points to #completestreets, #transit, and greenways.
The greatest economic freedom I ever enjoyed was the years I lived car-free.

If we deliver on #transit, we’ll take a huge step to becoming a dramatically more livable city.

The reconstruction of I-440 costs $152.9m

It is disruptive of a major motorist corridor for more than a year.

A high-capacity transit corridor would cost ~$175m and have a similar temporary effect on roadways.

This would be enough to start a frequent transit network, too.
So I-440 is a good exercise in perspective in costs and what we’re willing to tolerate in terms of disruption.
And by the way: 440 is legally inaccessible to pedestrians and cyclists and has no access points. So it literally only induces demand for more cars on our roadways.

This is why #completestreets are such an important (and inexpensive!) investment on local roads.

Two years ago today, a hit-and-run dump truck driver struck Clayton Barnard, dragging him 25m and killing him. Witness: "He...was gasping for help and air. I think he wanted to just have someone hold his hand…and he died shortly after.” #TODeadlyStreets #RoadViolence #WalkTO
Clayton was 36 with a loving family, wife, and bright future. He was going to apply his paralegal degree to help immigrants. He did not deserve to die like this. His family did not deserve to lose him in such a senseless, preventable way. #TODeadlyStreets

The driver, Roshan Navacodi, 38, of Toronto was charged with fail to remain causing death, and careless driving. Fail to remain can be fined $500-$2500, possible license suspension less than 2 years, possible prison sentence less than 6 months. mississauga.com/news-story/804…

Ah yes, @RDiManno and @TorontoStar. Quite insightful. #RoadSafety advocates are fighting for *convenience* for vulnerable road users. After all, if planning an unexpected funeral isn't a bit inconvenient, we don't know WHAT is!

It's been 4 years today nearly to the minute since the driver of a 300HP 4,600lb SUV made a negligent left turn and slammed her oversized, overpowered vehicle into my body while I was riding my bike to work. I have been living with the fallout ever since. #BikeTO Image
She inflicted a broken spine, brain injury, severe soft tissue damage to my left side. I developed a deep vein thrombosis in my left leg, and later a big piece of that clot broke off, chewed through my heart, and landed across both lobes of my lungs. That's often fatal.
This driver's actions nearly killed me TWICE. She was fined $300 and received ZERO demerit points. Compare: if you cut down a tree without authorization in Toronto, you can be fined $100,000. She got to keep driving like she didn't nearly just kill someone. No justice for me.
