I’ve become very adverse to “charge” & “discharge” in #somatic language b/c of the misappropriation by the #trauma workshops merchants

But this is what it means 👇🏼
“If we speak of charge and discharge in Body Psychotherapy we refer to changing the arousal dimension of the core affect. Working with charge and discharge is independent of the emotional category that we awaken or calm by provoking or soothing arousal.” - Ulfried Geuter and… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
In other words …

“emotion”

as a “somatic experience” (ignore the brand)

is a kinesthetic, experiential occurrence that impacts how bodies animate, express, dampen, numb, dissociate, etc

Another point on #differentiation esp as it relates to #collaboration

quick 🧵👇🏼
2/ when a person identifies themselves through #concepts they prize, hoard & claim them “as theirs”

and will sometimes “die for them”

b/c of the mechanism of identification is #conceptual
with #somatic #differentiation comes an internal network of self-experience that gives one access to a felt sense of #emergence

where harmonies, symphonies, waves, charges, compressions, tightens

of #experience occur

#IndianKnowledgeSystems #Thought #Concepts

Recent posts on Twitter on Dr. Vasudeva Sharan Agrawalla has filled me with concern about our engagement with the past.

A Civilization distinguishes itself in
- Thought, Concepts in evolves
- Translating that into material life.

+
Thought simply does not accumulate. It flows, evolves, morphs into something else. Every generation passes its Past into the Future in two ways
- Pure Conceptual Unchanging Thought
- How it applied to specific times and how it can flow into the Future

Its a Relay.

+
Consequently, engaging with our immediate ancestral generations and their thought is very crucial to how we take things forward in in our times and pass it onto the future.

In this, the world of Kannada is lucky. This continuous flow of Thought is not seriously disturbed.

Building Expertise

Even if you are someone who dabbles in multiple topics, you can still build expertise.

Find HOW from the following threads🧵
1/ If you have multiple interests, it means you are more curious than others.

In fact, I had to go past 200 books to understand my keen interest in (cognitive + behavioral) psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy.

And mind you, I’m an economist by training.

So Have Patience!
2/ If you are still struggling to pick a topic, then choose a topic based on something you already find fascinating and love to learn.

For instance, if your bookshelf is filled with leadership & Development books, then there lies the hint.

I don’t suppose you’ve ever made a mistake?
“Why would you ask that?”
Because I’ve just made one.
“Ah, I see… And you don’t like making mistakes, do you?”
No.
“Want to tell me?”
No.
“Are you sure?”
I’m sure.

It’s…
It’s something you said.
You made me realise something.
“I’m sorry. I wouldn’t have intended–”
You said, “Is it ethical to have so many enemies? Is it ethical to see so many people as ‘enemies of the people’?”
“I said that–but that doesn’t mean– ”
But you were right.

I like to think I’m strong on ethics… So what you said was quite a challenge. It hit me where it hurts. Right on target.
A kill shot.

A deeply interesting tutorial by @fchollet @MelMitchell1 @ChrSzegedy at #NeurIPS2020

"#Abstraction & #Reasoning in #AI systems: Modern Perspectives "

or "What are abstraction, generalization and analogic reasoning?"

1/

📺neurips.cc/virtual/2020/p…
@fchollet begins by laying some foundations in notation and background.

E.g., Generalization is a spectrum (and we are looking at lower bands in #ML nowadays)

2/
And Abstraction? It is the engine behind generalization!

And of course it comes in different flavors:

- program-centric: that is akin to high-level reasoning (inducing & merging programs)

- value-centric (interpolating examples) 👈 essentially what #DL does and excels at!

hostilarchy (n) - a system of rule by people whose unreflected, reactionary, anxiety-based aggression has been normalized, especially through existing and pervasive ageism, sexism, racism, ableism, classism, colonialism and other forms of oppression
(Latin 'hostilia' = 'aggression' + Greek 'arkhia' = leadership, rule, government)

Hostilarchy can be mapped within other social hierarchies, such that 'hostilarchs' ignore or neglect their own e.g. gerontarchical, patriarchal, white-supremacist, ableist, etc. behaviour(s).
Hostilarchy operates through normative relations of domination, such that hostilarchs perceive themselves as (or feel they should be) the 'top', 'dominant', 'alpha', etc. in familial, sexual, political, economic and other social relationships or contexts
