If you recall, the lawsuit was filed in 2020 and focused on the lack of broader access to copyright management tools, such as Content ID, for independent musicians and creators.
Maria Schneider and others filed the class action against YouTube and Google in an attempt to claim the current system supports piracy, while boosting profits for YouTube, and can't handle repeat infringers.
@Inferbro while legally & technically the entire #ContentID-Fuckup of @YouTube is to be blamed 75% on the #CopyrightMafia, that's even assuming someone get's 50k subscribers and can make a living from Videos.
@Inferbro As a personal example: @4ltYT was killed by the #AdPocalypse, and now I've a single-digit € balance of #Advertising #revenue on my @YouTube's @GoogleAds/#AdSense with no reasonable chance to ever reach 1st payout of €70 cuz in the meantime, I had to get another #Job.
@Inferbro this really puts on a huge damper on my plans to release content, and with <1k subscribers on @YouTube it's not worth opening up a @Patreon, @Flattr or @kachingle for the few cents per month - espechally when this would be taxable income to file.
Today we have three major record labels, the meanest, most voracious gobblers-up of the competition, companies that clawed their way to global dominance through absolute ruthlessness, particularly to the musicians who did the work that brought in the money.

I have enormous sympathy for artists suffering financial anxiety during the pandemic. I have 3 books out in 2020 and my family was really counting on them selling well to pay our bills, so I really, really get it.

The anxiety is real and justified, but music-industry calls to force US online services to filter everything we post with automated copyright filters are not. They are a terrible, awful idea.

Anyone who's ever dealt with existing copyright filters - like @YouTube's #ContentID - knows that they are (and this is being charitable), a giant fucking flaming shit-show that everyone hates with the heat of a thousand suns.
