#CoronaPandemic #coronavirus #CoronavirusLockdown

.@GovHolcomb's #coronavirus briefing about to begin.
Sunday was the scheduled date for further relaxation of Indiana's #CoronavirusLockdown, but Holcomb is moving that up to Friday. He says "We've earned the ability to go forward," because most people have been wearing masks and social distancing.
Marion, Lake and Cass Counties, which were delayed in the last loosening of restrictions, will be delayed on this one too, until June 1. That aligns with local plans in Marion County, and in Monroe County, which isn't required to wait by the state but is doing so on its own.

In a ray of hope against the #COVID19Pandemic, an mRNA vaccine under human clinical trial by US-based biotechnology giant #Moderna has shown promising results by generating an immune-system response in the body to fight coronavirus.
#mRNA-1273 is an mRNA vaccine against SARS-CoV-2, which was selected by Moderna in collaboration with investigators from the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a part of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH).

.@GaryMayorPrince will continue Gary's #CoronavirusLockdown through May 22, then start lifting restrictions.

Gary has 529 coronavirus cases, 20% of Lake County's total. Prince says the city continues to have double-digit increases daily.
Gary will allow restaurants, stores, and personal services (e.g. hair salons) to open at 25% capacity, 1/3 what state will allow by then. They must require masks for all customers and workers, and must "strongly urge" social distancing.
Several large Gary churches are already delaying in-person services to June 1, and Prince urges others to follow suit.

Restaurants/stores/salons open May 24, two days after Gary lifts stay-home order. Gary will be entering Stage 2 as state enters Stage 3.

Like many, I’ve had some extra fee time these days... After rebinging @theofficenbc and #theofficereunion I was inspired.

A thread of Trump’s handling of the #coronavirus (#COVID19) pandemic, as told by Michael Scott. #TheOffice
Way back in 2018, Trump decided it was a good idea to disassemble the #Pandemic Response Team – created by the Obama administration in case there was “an airborne disease that is deadly.” This can’t go wrong! #thiswaspreventable
Trump does nothing to replace this. He plays golf and insults people on Twitter – just the normal things that presidents do right?

.@IndyMayorJoe: Indianapolis will relax local #coronaviruslockdown on Friday, 3 days ahead of schedule. He says "the sacrifices [residents] have made continue to save lives," even as the city mourns those who have died.
Hogsett says first step toward reopening Indy won't go as far as the statewide first step which began on Monday in 88 counties.
Friday: mass gatherings in Indy of up to 25 people (up from 10), as state has done. But unlike state order, religious services remain subject to cap.

Nonessential businesses, including malls, can reopen, with limits on capacity.

BREAKING: @indgop convention, originally scheduled for June 20, will be conducted online on June 18. Voting to nominate a candidate for attorney general will begin four days later, with votes counted on July 10; all three candidates will address the e-convention.
Democrats already moved their 6/13 convention online. @GovHolcomb's "roadmap" for lifting the #coronaviruslockdown still caps mass gatherings at 250 people by convention time, but as recently as five days ago, @ChairmanHupfer was holding out hope for a live or hybrid convention.
Hupfer: "This was the only option, with the uncertainty of future restrictions caused by #CoronavirusPandemic, that provided certainty that our delegates would be able to vote for our party’s nominees.” They'll do so by mail, and specify 2nd choice in case no one gets majority.

Let's talk about the UK government's #coronavirus #contacttracing app, which is being trialled on the Isle of Wight as of tomorrow. @MattHancock, the UK govt's Secretary of State for Health & Social Care, was promoting the app on #R4Today this morning.
Matt Hancock urged everyone on the Isle of Wight to download the app, saying it would be an "incredibly important part" of ensuring #CoronavirusLockdownUK restrictions could be eased. /2

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-525400…
The idea behind these apps - which are in use in other countries already, though the take-up is nowhere higher than 20% - is that it works on your smartphone via your Bluetooth connection & uses your smartphone's ability to measure distance between it & another smartphone. /3

Holcomb: "We are ready to move ahead in a measured way" to reopen Indiana.

A more formal start to the briefing today, with Holcomb standing instead of sitting, and delivering an address straight to the camera before Q&A.
Holcomb: "Words cannot capture the pain and grief so many of us are feeling right now....Let us never, ever forget for one second that the more than 1,000 Hoosiers we have lost to this disease are not numbers. They are our grandparents, our parents, our children." #coronavirus
Holcomb thanks health care professionals, delivery drivers, others who have kept working to get IN through the #CoronavirusLockdown, as well as "all those who have taken this virus seriously and kept their distance... You have kept the terrible toll from being even worse."

As we wait for @GovHolcomb's announcement this afternoon on what's next for the #coronaviruslockdown, latest daily tracking from @StateHealthIN shows 815 new cases, 2nd-highest one-day total. The highest total came at peak of new Logansport cases; there are 50 new cases in Cass.
At least in part, the big jump reflects a surge in testing; the state has conducted 6,400 tests the last four days.

55 more deaths bring the #coronavirus death toll to 1,062; 6 new presumptive COVID deaths bring the grand total to 1,175. Death reports date back as far as Apr 14.
514 Hoosiers remain in intensive care, 34 fewer than yesterday. 17 of the newly reported deaths were yesterday; 48 were in the last two days.

The #US and its satellites countries and political leaders around the world are preparing a vast campaign to accuse #China of the #coronavirus spread. The aim is to squeeze China's economy and prevent it from becoming the world economic superpower. +

A: Great job! All your hard work #SocialDistancing is paying off! In many areas the new case counts are starting to flatten or even fall. So you might be wondering--can we all go back to normal?
Short answer: several things need to fall into place before we can go back to normal. Those things are #TESTING, more testing, and a major scale-up in contact tracing and safe #quarantine options for those who test positive.
