Today's #MunicipalistMonday highlights community owned energy in Scotland's north/west isles. Renewables are powering communities through democratic & collective ownership, with some parallels to remunicipalisation elsewhere.
This is also an example of redistributing land & revitalising rural communities: Scotland has very concentrated land ownership due to a history of enclosure & clearance. Few absentee landlord families own most of Scotland.
However, in the last 20 years, rural communities have collectively bought their lands. Building community-owned renewables has often financed these projects.

This creative, divisive, & profoundly misleading use of language by free-market elites, & the hard-right & far-right, has evolved gradually over the last forty years, emerging hand-in-hand with underregulated free-market capitalism, the #climatecrisis, & the #CostOfLivingCrisis.
The manufactured "war on woke" is a distraction, designed to divide voters.

Under cover of COVID, wealth has been transferred from poor to rich on an unprecedented & unimaginable scale, eroding democracy & resulting in hardship, conflict, mass death, & environmental collapse.

They call Harry scathing ,I think the MSM is severally scathing towards Harry.
Harry has and is doing what many of us want to do,hold the MSM to account, the utter rubbish the MSM print everyday all over their front pages is boring, uninteresting and more than a tad out of touch,
Do they know the NHS is at crisis point?,do they know that @SteveBarclay and @RishiSunak is playing chicken with our lives?,watching the Government do nothing! literally nothing to avert this impending crisis in the NHS is of no consequence to them, the #CostOfLivingCrises is of
No interest maybe they know like us it's actually a #CostofGreedCrisis.
Why won't they hold this Government to account?,why do they avoid the important issues, maybe, just maybe they are closer than they would like us to know and understand, who knows.
Back to Harry I say good for

#Austerity isn't an 'economic necessity', it's a cruel political choice.

Austerity policies since 2010 haven't been substantially reversed or retracted in recent years. In fact, they've often been levelled at the most marginalised social groups.

In 2019, cuts in total expenditure on welfare & benefit payments alone were expected to total £37 billion a year by 2020. Millions are struggling with the #CostOfLivingCrises, & a further £28 billion of cuts to public funding were announced in the Govt’s November 2022 budget. Image
Perpetual cumulative cuts to welfare, education, social & healthcare services have caused 330,000 deaths & shape daily lives & social relationships. The effects continue, across time & generations, worsening existing inequalities relating to gender, race, class, age & disability. Image

#PostTruthEconomics aka Trussonomics or Trumponomics is the economics being followed by #PostTruth governments that ignore economic expertise and formal forecasting & scenario analyses in favour of evidence-free policies based on ideology or populism - a thread
In the UK, the #budget2022 is a prime example: no @OBR_UK costings with scenarios based on alternative assumptions; policy changes based on wishes & hopes, rather than evidence; facile & ad hoc justifications (trickle-down economics); bluster & mis-speaking arrogance; and lies.
One feature of #PostTruthEconomics is the co-option of non-mainstream, outlier, ideological, or dead economists to provide confident justification, at least of aspects of the policies, e.g. for #budget2022 Prof Patrick Minford @JamesVa72538332

The British Social Attitudes Survey is Britain's longest running annual statistical survey, conducted by the highly respected National Centre for Social Research since 1983.

New results show Britain has become MORE liberal, but more divided too.

The most pressing issue is of course the #CostOfLivingCrises that threatens a severe drop in living standards, especially for the less well off, compounded by the announcements in what has been dubbed the #KamiKwasi "mini-budget', set to dramatically increase inequality.
Other issues facing Britain include our underfunded #NHS still recovering from the pandemic; the integrity of the Union is under threat; significant regional disparities in economic & social wellbeing; & deep political division over a Brexit - part of a polarising ‘culture war’.

Gaslighting sociopathic weapons grade windbag & UK Health Secretary, Thérèse Coffey, has patronised healthcare workers by telling them to “be positive” & avoid using policy wonk “jargon” as they grapple with job cuts & the deepening #CostOfLivingCrises.

Staff were told to avoid using “Oxford commas” — referring to the contested punctuation mark that precedes the last item on a written list.

The instructions — “New secretary of state ways of working preferences” — was published on the Dept of Health and Social Care’s intranet.
This has inevitably angered health workers, many of whom were on the front lines during the Covid pandemic & who now face real-terms pay cuts & added pressures as infection rates are expected to rise over the winter due to the Tory Government's deliberate #NHS underfunding.

"Boost for Liz Truss as new poll shows nine in 10 voters BACK her plan to freeze energy bills to help families through #CostOfLivingCrises" - screams the Mail.

The same poll found 75% of Tory voters BACK a #windfalltax on oil & gas companies' profits, which Truss opposes.
The poll, commissioned by the Mail, put @UKLabour seven points ahead of the Tories,42% - 35%, with Starmer just ahead of Truss (36% to 33%) when voters were asked who would make the best PM.

Predictably, 56% of Tory voters said the #Partygate investigation should not continue.

So…a developer has the least energy efficient homes built it can get away with (for profit), and then a landlord buys the home/s to rent out (for profit) then judging by U.K. gov figures typically barely maintains it…then tenants pay an obscene, unnecessarily high energy bill?
It ain’t unintentional that there’s plenty articles about how much running certain activities in the home will cost you energy-wise AND NOTHING ABOUT BUILDING STANDARDS BEING ABYSMAL and that tenants have basically no say in shaping the energy efficiency of where they live.
“Oh no but you can’t general-“

The Govt, US billionaire-funded lobbyists & the billionaire-owned UK press & media LIE to voters every day, falsely claiming British workers are lazy & greedy, & our Universities, legal system, media & public services are all overrun with 'Britain-hating woke Leftists'.
They tell us the Big Lies that the #CostOfLivingCrises is nothing to do with deregulation or the greed of Big Corporations & their shareholders, & that delaying action on tackling the #ClimateCrisis is necessary to save the British people & the economy, when the opposite is true.
They give their friends, funders & other ideological extremists all the juiciest Govt jobs & contracts, & appoint them to head our so-called "independent" regulators, cultural institutions & Commissions, & collude with overseas & non-dom billionaires to demonise any resistance.

🧵I feel like a bloody broken record - #Pakistanflood is climate apartheid we have warned about for decades – the rich use their wealth to seek safety and leave the poor in the South to burn/drown. 1/3 of Pakistan under water, 1000+ lives lost, homes, schools, hospitals & gone.
It's a toxic interplay between climate, hunger, structural inequality & a rigged global economic system that has left the poor hanging by a thread and states overwhelmed so the wealthy can continue to profit. Its not new record breaking heatwaves and floods are the new reality
How do people recover from a never-ending crisis in a country where many are already barely surviving- 70% of Pakistan popln don’t have access to proper nutrition, 1 in 3 of the population is in extreme poverty. When the poor say they have lost everything they mean everything
