Strange state of affairs in our disciplined society!

Why is the law not strictly enforced against those who unlawfully destroy important historical / archeological sites?

This is just one example of the state of health of our democracy...

The recent months have many such examples:

1. Terrorist who admits to murder of Sri Lanka Army personnel not arrested. *Happens to be close associate of govt.
2. So-called 'curfew' or 'social distancing' 'rules' not enforced for funeral of former Minister.
*deceased Minister was a close associate of govt.

Police are still looking for the main suspects.

According to neighbors, the suspects were removed from local religious organizations due to their extremist ideology.

Also, a house search led to more weapons.

Seems this is way deeper than we think.

Kabir Hashim's secretary was shot by a religious extremist group over his cooperation with police on this investigation.

All these things we supposedly "didn't know about the 19A" are absolutely false. 1) The @Slpp is cunningly using the chaos of #CoupLK (which they created) to try to undermine the 19A which introduces checks and balances to our constitution. [1]
2) They want #lka to go back to the absolutely atrocious 18th amendment which centralized all powers of the State in the hands of the Executive President,
3) They want the President to have full control over Parliament
4) To be able to hand pick & appoint anyone as judges [2]
5) They want to take away the power of any #lka citizen to challenge the official acts of the President.
6) They want the public service to be fully subservient to the President;
7) Contrary to what @charith9 says, they want to get rid of the Right to Information. [3]

Fair point about the haste to pass legislation. If only you remembered these things when you are in government. Remember how your dad passed the 18th amendment to the constitution as an urgent bill? SC didn't have more than 3 days to examine it & send determination (1)
Parliament had no time to debate it. No amendments were even entertained for the 18th amendment. In contrast the the 19th amendment bill was Gazetted for a longer period than it took for the 18th amendment to go through the entire legislative process. (2)
Parliamentary process was of course chaotic for the 19th amendment that's partly because a total of 174 amendments had been submitted for consideration during the committee stage of the Bill (63 amendments by the Government and 111 by the Opposition). (3)

@RajapaksaNamal I can't speak for the international community but #lka civil society opposed this tooth & nail by
A) challenged the 20th amendment that would have postponed elections through the Constituion. Yes SLPP lawyers also challenged it but the basis of the challenge + (1)
The case law that the SC relied on in "striking down" the 20A was built up by local CSO over decades. It was ironic to see SLPP lawyers who appeared for & argued in favour of the Divineguma Bill use justice Shirani B's SC determination on that Bill to oppose the 20A (2)
I am sure you remember what happens to Justice Shirani B for delivering that Special Determination on Divineguma noh? (3)
