IPCC SR 15 chapter 3 table 3.4, number of people in millions exposed to various risks at 1.5C, 2C and 3C. 3C is what Dr Merkel is aiming for and is right on target.

Twenty-nine senators and their spouses own between $3.5 million and $13.9 million worth of stock in companies that extract, transport, or burn fossil fuels, or provide services to fossil fuel companies, according to a Sludge analysis of personal financial filings as of Aug. 16.
The senators are invested in 86 fossil fuel companies, including well-known giants like ExxonMobil and Royal Dutch Shell, but also a range of lesser known companies that specialize in pipeline operations, natural gas exports, and oilfield services.

In the course of the 2017 North Dakota Access Pipeline protests in Standing Rock, eight journalists were arrested, six had their equipment searched or seized and one was injured when shot by police with rubber bullets : #CoveringClimateNow pressfreedomtracker.us/all-incidents/…
The North Dakota legislature has since proposed legislation to make records related to pipeline projects in the state exempt from open records requests. It was signed into law on April 9 of this year : #CoveringClimateNow
It would be great to see more news outlets sign up to the #CoveringClimateNow initiative which “aims to convene and inform a conversation among journalists about how all news outlets […] can do justice to the defining story of our time.”

Still, too many outlets treat the climate crisis like just another story. While it will be pivotal to avoid oversaturation so as not to dash hope and motivation to act, the topic should be given top priority. Otherwise, how can we hope that change will happen?
