NEW FUNERAL HOME CONSUMER PROTECTIONS: DC residents will now benefit from more price transparency in the funeral industry and a new Consumer Bill of Rights for Funeral Home Establishments: bit.ly/35Jfu2T
Under the @councilofdc emergency #COVID19DC legislation, funeral homes must:

✅Post prices online for the first time
✅Provide itemized bills/receipts
✅Inform consumers of their rights
@councilofdc I thank @councilofdc for unanimously approving, and the Mayor signing into law, these strong protections—many of which OAG proposed in 2017.

ATTN, HUD: Time to ⬆️ protections for senior citizens w/ reverse mortgages: bit.ly/3c5g39E #COVID19DC Image
What’s a reverse mortgage?

A home equity conversion mortgage is the most common type of reverse mortgage. It’s a special type of home loan only for people 62+: bit.ly/3aZKZqv
With 24 state AGs, I’m calling on HUD to:

🏠 Require mortgage servicers to educate customers on available relief

🏠 Let mortgage servicers recognize more local property tax forbearance, deferral, repayment & forgiveness plans

🏠 Prepare now to extend relief, if needed

State AGs will do what the Trump admin will not—enforce the law to protect consumers' credit during #COVID19DC.

With 21 AGs, we warned Experian, TransUnion, Equifax that we're monitoring their compliance with the law and consumer protections: bit.ly/2YnilwH Image
Safeguarding consumer credit scores is important because they play a key role in:

✅Securing employment

ALERT: DC prohibits debt collectors from filing/threatening new collection lawsuits, repossessing cars, and attempting to collect in person during #COVID19DC

The last thing that DC residents who are experiencing financial hardship need is to be harassed by debt collectors.

FRIDAY at 2pm: Have questions? I’ve got answers!

Join me for a Twitter Q&A to learn about #COVID19DC protections for DC consumers, workers, tenants, and vulnerable residents during this public health emergency.

Tap below to ask your question now or tweet using #AskAGRacine.
Great Q! You can report senior abuse, neglect or exploitation to:

OAG: 202-727-3807; elderjustice@dc.gov
APS: 202-541-3950
MPD: 202-737-4404

OAG will investigate complaints & bring civil and criminal cases against anyone who harms our vulnerable residents during #COVID19DC.
Thanks for the question, Nate. Some tenants need a home health aide or guest for assistance due to their disability. Landlords cannot discriminate on the basis of an actual or perceived disability. Abide by the lease agreement & seek counsel advice if given notice to vacate.

TODAY at 11am: I will join @MayorBowser for her daily #COVID19DC press conference to provide updates on OAG’s enforcement of emergency protections for DC consumers, workers, tenants, and vulnerable residents.

Watch the livestream at mayor.dc.gov/live
@MayorBowser I want to offer sincere condolences to the families of the 205 District residents we have lost in this terrible #COVID19DC pandemic.

We also wish a speedy recovery to the over 4,100 members of our community who have been sickened by this virus.
@MayorBowser Since early March, OAG has received 320+ consumer complaints about price gouging, issues with billing and refunds, robocalls and online scams.

We've sent 20 price gouging cease-and-desist letters and worked with @WSC_Gym to ensure members aren't charged while gyms are closed.

Price Gouging Alert: In response to #pricegouging complaints, our office sent cease-and-desist letters to four DC-area stores and one online seller for allegations of overcharging for goods during the #COVID19DC emergency: bit.ly/3bEGQJt ImageImage
OAG found evidence of illegal markups for disinfecting products, gloves, and other essential items.

Residents seeking scarce and essential goods to protect their health should not have to worry about paying illegally inflated prices.
Those seeking to illegally profit from the #COVID19 emergency must stop their unlawful behavior now.

I’m urging @amazon Craigslist @eBay @Facebook @Walmart to do more to root out #pricegouging online and protect consumers during the #COVID19DC pandemic: bit.ly/33K85zr
@amazon @eBay @Facebook @Walmart While some companies are making efforts to police #pricegouging, our bipartisan 33-AG coalition is calling on them to go further.

✅Set policies and enforce price gouging restrictions during emergencies
✅Trigger protections prior to an emergency
✅Implement a complaint portal
@amazon @eBay @Facebook @Walmart Price gouging is ILLEGAL in the District during this emergency.

We sent and will continue to issue cease-and-desist letters, will file suit to enforce the law, and seek to revoke licenses and permits.
