Guys, you don't want this virus. I'm now on day 8 and I had to leave the breakfast table this morning because I don't have the strength to sit up.
It's not fun to be this sick, it's also not fun for your kids to have to deal with it. Especially over Christmas.
My entire body including my hair and my eyeballs HURTS. I can't stop coughing. Can't smell or taste anything. Have no appetite.

[Thread] South African healthcare workers may have to wait until March 2021 to hear whether they will get special access to the Pfizer #Covid19vaccine as firm fills pre-orders from wealthy countries first. bit.ly/SACovaxUpdate
2/5 If you're struggling to keep up with the latest on #COVID19vaccines, you're not alone. Since a lot of what we do know publically is being pieced together from media reports, I nerdily transcribed the most important bits of yesterdays' @eNCA interview. bit.ly/SACovaxUpdate
3/5 In the interview, SA confirms it was in negotiations with COVAX during the time it missed the deadline. (TBH there has been a lot of deadline missing even re: the legally binding agreements countries were supposed to sign.) bit.ly/SACovaxUpdate

PROVINCIAL UPDATE 27 JULY

• Changes from yesterday highlighted
• Table on co-morbid diseases

As was the case with EC, all those deaths in FS did not happen in one day. It's just delayed reporting.

Table on co-morbid diseases

Here's the weekly look at the different co-morbid conditions reported.

The only condition where the case fatality rate has remained consistently above 40% is chronic kidney disease.
Cumulative cases graph

• GP curve starting to bend slightly. Probably a couple more weeks before KZN starts to bend down a bit.
• FS, MP and NC the ones still going up at a fair rate
• EC following a very similar path to WC

7 day average of new cases

• Highest daily increases for FS, MP & NC
• GP average has seen a decline over the past few days while KZN has leveled off
• WC curve on my graph took a small dive after the reallocation of cases so for one of the days I had to put an increase of 0
Daily new cases in Free State

With Free State currently experiencing the highest growth rate from all the provinces I thought it was worth showing this graph again.
New cases was over 1 000 for the first time today and the average is currently 876.

PROVINCIAL UPDATE 20 JUNE

• Changes from yesterday highlighted
• No hospital update given today

Since, according to the official numbers, GP now has more active cases than WC... today I'm going discuss why maybe that's not actually the case.

#Covid19SA #COVID19inSA
I know there's going to be a lot of talk about GP now having more active cases than WC, but in theory, I don't feel it's true.
Since WC changed it's testing strategy, the dip in the 7 day average was very noticeable - and not consistent with I expected from the curve.
I created a projection of where the average might be if not for the change.
This is what I considered:
• Change in strategy only applied to public facilities
• More testing was done in private
• Cases under 55 make up about 70% of cases
• Some under 55 will still be tested

[2/3] Weekly deaths from Natural causes:

We can see there's a definite upward trend now occurring in WC. Remember this data is from a week back so the spike will be even higher right now.

And taking an even closer look at the metros...

• Todays graphs: Total deaths per Province and 7 day average of new cases
• Also a quick look at the lag of test results in WC

#CoronaVirusSA #Covid19inSA
Cumulative deaths per Province (As of 22 May)

• Worrying to see EC following the trend of WC
• KZN and GP deaths have slowed and not much to speak of in other Provinces
7 Day rolling average graph (As of 22 May)

• Not much change from yesterday but there seems to be some confusion when allocating cases in the smaller provinces, numbers have been up and down last few days (just by 1 or 2)
• NW probably had the best week (NC aside)

In the words of the President, when he spoke last week, he pointed out that at midnight tonight, it will be exactly three weeks since our country entered into an unprecedented nation-wide lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus
He outlined the measures we have taken as well as the changes that we have each had to make in our own behaviour, and that together, we have definitely slowed the spread of the virus.
