Ok folks its time to talk about overbuilding renewable energy as the quickest and cheapest way to a low-carbon future for Australia.

THREAD
Firstly if you're thinking about both the economic recovery from the #Covid_19australia crisis and how to respond to the #climatecrisis, I highly recommend the excellent work of @Anna_Skarbek's team @ClimateWorksAus in their latest report. See @adamlmorton's article for summary
The analysis by @ClimateWorksAus "suggests over-building renewable energy to 200% capacity – double what the country needs – could be more cost-effective than building to 100%, and would spark new clean export opportunities."

Thread. 1/12. Let’s talk about transmission sources. The growth of #COVID19 in Australia appears to have slowed with fewer confirmed cases announced for the last 3 days (yes, let's talk testing and 3-day averages soon).

2/12. Today was just over 2 weeks since the fed govt announced travellers arriving in Aus had to self-isolate for 14 days. And it was about 1.5 weeks since borders closed to non-residents and non-citizens. So we’re probably seeing these policies start to bite. #auspol
3/12. So the question is - how many of the new confirmed cases each day are linked to OS-travel, and how many are community transmissions?

Teachers have been thrust onto the frontline of this crisis.

The Premier has failed to provide any reassurance for our public school teachers and principals. 👇🏻
The Premier has failed to issue clear and unequivocal advice in relation to school closures.

What we have now is a recipe for chaos.
Encouraging parents and caregivers to choose whether their children attend school or not fails to offer any assurances or provide any certainty. The Premier has created a moral dilemma for parents.

COVID-19 🇦🇺 Quite a few have asked for an update on my initial table that looks at Aust cases per million population compared to others at the same day. Click below to expand.

See replies in this thread for other data and points to be made. #Covid_19australia
COVID-19 🇦🇺 Our multiplier on the previous data point i.e. day 8 to 10 Aust increased # of cases x1.55 (877 up from 564) & day 10-12 was x1.54 (1353 up from 877). In short, we're tracking similarly to European countries at the same time with an alarming exponential growth rate.
Don't let the reduction in Italy's multiplier provide false comfort. Most underestimate what exponential growth achieves. Italy now @ 59,138. If they increase an average of x 1.2 every 2 days for 10 more days, they'll be at 147,154 cases. They're far from getting on top of things

Teachers and principles are not dispensable.
An urgent meeting is being sought with the NSW minister.
Answers are needed 👇🏻
As of midday, yesterday, plans were being enacted to wind back school operations. Described as the UK model, schools were to remain open with appropriate levels of supervision for children of essential workers.
In the UK, schools are being kept as empty as possible. Flexible arrangements are in place for school staff to ensure effective minimum supervision and the further ongoing development of online educational material for students not at schools.

It is clear at this point that @ScottMorrisonMP and the rest of the ruling class could not give less of a fuck about ordinary people. They have had months to prepare for this crisis and yet they still have no plan in place to stop the spread of the disease.
They should be learning from other countries by shutting down all non essential industries with full compensation for workers and pouring billions into health to fund testing and treatment.
And yet all we've seen is massive bailouts to industry to protect profits and the economy while Morrison scolds ordinary people for not self isolating, something that he was advocating against last week

Suggestion for next wave of this virus next Spring if vaccine not found. The sudden closing of intl borders saw a scramble of people travelling, who had symptoms, but travelled anyway for fear of being stranded in another country for 6 mths. There should have been a way for these
people to own up about being sick & get checked before commencing travelling thru multiple terminals on multiple planes with a guarantee that they would still be able to get home, but needed to be quarantined before travelling home. There was a delay in finding out what flights
they were on as they were not on their itinerary and threw out their boarding passes so didn’t know their flights. All cruise ships should have seen everyone tested with results confirmed before anyone stepped onto Australian soil. #Covid_19Australia #AHPPC #auspol
