Berejiklian opens with double dose at 40% and segues straight to saying not many places around the world has reached 80% double dose and she is confident [she can pull off her political goal of announcing a big first in Australian jurisdiction vax rate].
she gallops past the deaths of people - all three are in west and south western Sydney - to pump up her own tires on vax rates that are contingent on federal distribution strategy and hands off to McAnulty.
new cases are almost 1500 in NSW today but you wouldn’t know it from the triumphalist tone of our Premier for wealthy Sydney LGAs.

the NSW briefing is headed by Hazzard today. He has failed former Liberal Party leader and current Lifeline chair John Brogden with him to talk about mental health.
the health minister opens with test totals, death totals, and the vaccination status of people who have died. He then runs through each death. Once again, as per NSW government policy settings, the deaths are in west and south west Sydney.
he then leverages the vax status of people who have died for his vaccination #CovidComms. There is obviously no information about obstacles - to young people in particular - getting vaccinated.

Berejiklian opens with the weekly vax total. Meaning new case numbers, hospitalisations and deaths must be very bad again today.
Berejiklian says covid patients in NSW “will get the best health care on the planet”, a lie.
now she is announcing a conversation with the prime minister about getting more vaccines for NSW. We already knew that Sydney Liberals are strategising dose distribution based on their campaign priorities, but tbh I did not expect her to confirm these political facts.

the gaping maw between press gallery promotion of Morrison’s #CovidComms - like pointlessly poring over his poll-driven tone switches on state borders - and the Morrison government’s current legislative agenda eg more secrecy, misogyny, and targeted attacks on poor people…
Morrison government priorities: shouting about rich people accumulating more wealth that is not distributed across society like it’s a good thing; fabricating unemployment narratives; screaming at Labor premiers; hiding federal pandemic decision-making from the public…
the pressing Morrison government priority - during a global pandemic causing mass un- and underemployment and hardship in low income areas - of targeted attacks on low income people in the exact same model that has cost thousands of lives and billions of dollars…

aaand into the thousands we gallop. Berejiklian is raving about vax rates.
regional lockdown for all of NSW extended for another 10 days to midnight Friday 10 September. She rolls straight on her “treats”.
vaccinated adults in heavy lockdown LGAs can have one hour of recreation outdoors. Lighter lockdown LGAs can have outdoor gatherings of up to 5 people. No time limit specified.

the tragedy of a young mum of three dying at home in western Sydney has not slowed Berejiklian down from her comms for a second.
there is a doctor here to talk about “getting to hospital earlier rather than later”, says Berejiklian, with no mention of the emergency code yellow at Westmead Hospital.
condolences are also offered to the death of a Hornsby man in his 80s, in a hospital, by Barilaro.

“plans are already being swung into place not just here but overseas and in the Middle East” - the usual dissembling bullshit around his empty centre.
there are some 1800 Afghans, 1800 who have come to Australia and are living here among us: Morrison.
the situation in Afghanistan is torrid at the moment. There may be some stability, it is all relative when you’re talking about a place like Kabul…

individuals, and by implication not governments, is the theology here.

up to 177 cases in the wild from 134K tests. These are less depressing numbers than we have been getting this last week. Yes I know a day does not a trend make.
cuz in Tamworth told me last Wednesday that everywhere she goes has been full mask and check in compliance for weeks. Anecdata, but I’ll take it.
I think we did need reassurance that the NSW hospital system is coping tbh. Especially after the devastating news from Liverpool.
