The "miasma" theory is very archaic. "Malaria" for example means "bad air" in Italian. Medieval plague doctors wore respirators with aromatic scents in them to ward off the foul-smelling "miasmas" to avoid getting infected en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plague_do… Image
