There's a series of interlinked Discord groups for Britain's cops. You must show policing ID – such as a warrant card – to gain entry.

These groups are packed full of misogyny, racism + homophobia that – quite frankly – makes the recent WhatsApp revelations look tame.🍎
Over the next week or so, I'm going to share excerpts from these groups, which – collectively – have a membership of many hundreds of police officers. And of course, we can be certain they're emergency services workers as they all foolishly flashed their ID to join the group.🍏
The @metpoliceuk has launched a #NotInMyMet campaign to combat misogyny, racism + other forms of discrimination, after Sarah Everard's death at the hands of a serving officer.

Unfortunately, many police officers show huge contempt towards this training on women's safety.🍎 Image

cw // sui , suicide
This is a proposition to offer to #MAID people who have been detained in prison/ after 6 months

This is not autonomy; this is a potential pipeline from suicidal ideation/criminal activity to death
#CdnPoli #CriminalJustice
cw // suicide, death
Proposed "Mental Health" Pipeline
1: You struggle with ideations
2: You attempt and are detained against your will
3: After 6 months of isolation from society in custody you are offered a "mercy death"

Does that sound like autonomy?
cw // death , prison
Proposed "Criminal Justice" Pipeline
1: Commit a crime that leads to more than 6 months imprisonment
2: Offered access to a "mercy death" if you consent

What differences does this proposed "solution" have from the death penalty? What similarities?

#TheCriminalBar facing oblivion @MaxJLHardy wrote perceptively that the public would get a distorted impression of our justice system because of the #WAGATHA trial. #criminaljustice is in crisis. And @jimrobottom suggested the same for the mass of civil litigation. 1/
The Tabloids don’t want to run this narrative. Clichés work. People, without wealth or financial resilience are far more likely to get dragged into a Criminal Court, a Family Court, or an Employment Tribunal.
Then, they’re not likely to encounter a ‘fat cat lawyer’ but a junior barrister and/or a high street solicitor, from a small to medium size practice. We’re not talking Baroness Shackleton or Lady Ward. 3/

#OTD in 1865 the Thirteenth Amendment passed the House of Representatives, sending it to the states for ratification. The Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in the United States “…except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted."
The amendment ended race-based chattel slavery in America, but did not rid the nation of forced labor, which exists through America’s prison system today. #13thAmendment #Constitution #slavery #HistoryMatters #CivilWar #USCivilWar #AmericanCivilWar #PoliticalHistory #knowhistory
Congress abolished slavery in Washington D.C. in 1862. The Emancipation Proclamation outlawed slavery in rebelling states Jan. 1, 1863 and former rebel states were forced to ban slavery in new state constitutions. Republicans in Congress still wanted a Constitutional Amendment.

A mother just told me her son has been on remand – in prison – for almost a year after being supected of couriering an ounce of a class B drug.
The prosecution submitted a truly ludicrous valuation of this substance to the court – and they've provided no evidence to substantiate this price whatsoever, despite repeated requests from the defence.
Unsurprisingly, the defendant invested their time + money in commissioning an independent drug valuation expert. This specialist agreed that the valuation was astonishing, even saying he'd never seen anything so unbelievable with no supporting evidence.

(Thread 1/4): Joined @CortesSteve and @JennPellegrino on @newsmax this evening - @GavinNewsom’s little band-aid bill is not going to make a difference towards crime. What is going to make a difference is if we stop electing ridiculous prosecutors who refuse to enforce our laws.
(2/4): Just like with #RecallGavinNewsom, billionaire money is funding the wrong side of recall efforts directed at prosecutors like @GeorgeGascon.
(3/4): The racial impact of #CriminalJustice issues is felt most negatively in low income and middle class communities. In San Francisco for example the violent crime wave has disproportionately hit the older Asian immigrant population.

Yesterday, when I was talking about 2020 accomplishments, I forgot to mention the 19 interviews I produced on the Decarceration Nation Podcast @DNationPod

Was so great to talk to so many amazing and accomplished guests in 2020
The year started with an interview with my friend Val, who returned from over 40 years of incarceration last year...We talked about everything from his service in Vietnam to getting to vote for the first time…
Next I talked to a legendary activist, Lisa Fithian about her new book "Shut It Down"

Who knew, just a few months later, protests would break out across the entire country…

2/ EDUCATION - the over-exclusion of Black students is present at all ages. There's a persistent problem of stereotyping & unconscious bias, a “cumulative process of mounting disciplinary sanctions for relatively low-level disruption that might go unpunished for others” Image… 3/ Schools sometimes label naturally growing afro hair as a uniform violation or exclude children for having dreadlocks. These policies are highly discriminatory, undermine a child’s sense of school belongingness and make them feel devalued and unwelcome.

[THREAD] I went to law school to be a prosecutor. I was attracted to the job because the prosecutor’s duty is to “do justice.” This is the commonly and dearly held belief in the profession. Doing justice means just what it says. Sometimes it means convicting, sometimes (1/18)
It means dismissing. I was inspired by @adamjohnfoss and his work around restorative justice. In his @TEDTalks he discusses being able to put a defendant on a plan instead of taking him to trial for theft. Defendant was a young kid. Due to Adam’s redirect as the (2/18)
