2022 is coming to an end and we still aren’t seeing movement from policymakers to make the expanded #ChildTaxCredit permanent.

If you’re still wondering about how this policy could change millions of lives, read on for a recap. 1/6 🧵
When the temporary expanded #CTC was introduced, it “aided millions of low-and middle-income families during the pandemic and helped cut child poverty nearly in half.”

In doing so, it became the most effective anti-poverty policy in U.S. history. 2/6…
As the #ChildTaxCredit started to change people’s lives for the better, it was suddenly taken away, slipping families with children back into poverty.

The added pain of inflation has only put basic needs even further out of reach. 3/6…

The top tax policy priority in year-end negotiations should be delivering the full #ChildTaxCredit to 19M children who now get < the full amount or zero b/c their families’ incomes are too low.
Our new report w/ state-by-state numbers on these children:…
The business community is pressing Congress to pass corporate tax cuts– undoing provisions of the Trump tax law that offset some of the cost of huge corporate rate cuts. The #ChildTaxCredit is a far higher priority & certainly no corporate tax cuts should proceed w/o the #CTC.
As the success of the #AmericanRescuePlan showed, a high rate of child poverty is a policy choice. The year-end tax negotiations are the time when policymakers should choose to lower child poverty, not push it higher. Image

Yesterday marked the 6th drop of @POTUS’ monthly #ChildTaxCredit. This much-needed credit has improved the lives of families across the country, and has undoubtedly impacted women and women of color for the better. Here are two stories, from mothers in #Florida and #Indiana:
“Those who are struggling the most to get by and who face the highest burdens, mostly women in communities of color, need all of these policies that work better together.” Read about Laurie and Topacio, both in Florida, in #ChangeWire:…
In Indiana, Eva talks about being a low-income mom: “What’s often overlooked as not a big deal – like dance classes for my daughter. Things like that... that support our children in the long run, are really big deals [for] families in poverty.”…

So here’s the scoop on the new child tax credit changes. It’s being implemented very quickly. It’s using some of the same infrastructure set up for the economic impact (stimulus payments) but it’s different in many ways. #tax #CTC #TaxTwitter
Here’s the gist of it, tho there’s situations that I won’t cover here. Please consult a tax professional for advice in your own situation. This does not constitute advice in your particular situation.
Over the past couple years, the max child tax credit has been $2,000 per child. This is being raised to $3,000 for 2021 per child age 6 - 17 at the end of 2021, and $3,600 per child under 6 at end of 21.

#UBI is the strategic solution to protect the ruling classes from Molotov cocktails & global civil unrest. Disclosures on coming "disbanding of existing safety-net programs" are not included in the foundation funded marketing campaigns. ImageImageImageImage
"Cutting a wide array of existing programs — such as the earned income tax credit (#EITC), #child tax credit (#CTC), temporary #assistance to needy families (#TANF), supplemental #nutrition assistance program (#SNAP), & #disability insurance — would cover only 1/5 of the cost..." Image
#UBI will "result in a massive loss of existing transfers to people w/ #disabilities & #families w/ children. This approach would exacerbate the needs of the most vulnerable members of society."

Families struggling to make ends meet need more than a one-time $1,200 payment.

Here's what I'm calling for to help #WorkingFamilies:

▶️$2,000 stimulus checks every quarter for adults
▶️Expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit

#FundFamilies Image
Expanding & increasing #CTC & #EITC would

✅help lift millions out of poverty
✅keep families stable
✅provide a much-needed boost to the economy

That's why I introduced a temporary expansion of these programs with @SenatorBennet @SenatorDurbin and @RonWyden.
Many young adults without children that are working on the frontlines of this crisis - grocery clerks, home health aides - are completely left out of the #EITC.

Our legislation make these workers eligible to receive the full #EITC benefit and expands the childless adult benefit.
