This week, I joined with @AmbAndrewYoung, John-Miles Lewis (son of Congressman #JohnLewis), and Al Vivian (son of Rev. #CTVivian) to send a letter to CEOs of #Georgia-based corporations calling upon them to oppose anti-#voter legislation; to use their influence...
with Georgia state legislators to deter any and all bills that include #VoterSuppression and would restrict voting access, particularly for Black communities; and to urge action that would ensure our state moves forward and not back to the era of Jim Crow politics.
We also called upon these CEOs to divest from politicians who continue to suppress Georgia's voters.

I share you the wins, but you need to know the losses also to understand what we’re up against. 2 yrs after we argued the case, the 11th Cir issues a terrible decision (2-1) upholding the summary judgment dismissal of our challenge to AL’s photo i.d. law. al.com/news/2020/07/f…
I can think of few cases less appropriate for summary judgment. “No genuine issue of material fact in dispute?” Come. On. Great dissent by Judge Gayles. Filled w/pride at the fight in our team: @RossDeuel (Mr. AL); @natashacmerle & @lilianazarago.
This has been a tough run on voting cases. The stakes are so high. So we keep fighting with memory of #JohnLewis and #CTVivian and the dedication and resilience of our clients fueling our determination.

I díky němu prošel dnes opět podkopávaný zákon o volebním právu.
Lewis byl během různých protestů 40x zatčen, zraněn. Image

Friends, I am sitting here is tears. I was on Zoom calls from 9am-9pm ET today. So when I scrolled through my emails I was shocked to see the NYTimes email alert, sent early this morning that Rev. #CTVivian passed away this morning at 95 years old. 1/

Rev. Vivian was one of the giants of the Civil Rights Movement. Taught non-violence by Rev. James Lawson, Rev. Vivian helped organize the 1960 Nashville Sit-Ins. He eventually became the national director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference affiliates. #RIPCTVivian 2/
I was blessed beyond my own understanding to be introduced to him the first time as a staff-worker in Christian ministry. He led our organization through profound anti-racism training. The old white men just about list their minds—and Rev. Vivian was 100% right. #CTVivian 3/

To all the people, designated White by colonizing nations, who are becoming disillusion by your evangelical or Christian faith: When you walk away from Jesus you are not #woke. You are operating out of the white supremacy you say you abhor. 1/ #LiberatingEvangelicalism
When you walk away from Jesus and Christian faith to be “woke” you are walking away from a faith that sprang from brown, indigenous, colonized people. You’re walking away from faith born on the underside of empire in the context of oppressed peoples. 2/ #LiberatingEvangelicalism
You’re walking away from the faith of enslaved people who found such profound liberation in Jesus that they broke laws to gather together and worship in #trees! 3/
