Japan and South Korea are attempting to curb the spread of an infectious, deadly strain of bird flu that since November, wich has caused 9 million chickens, ducks and quails to be culled in South korea and Japan. Since July,
the "highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N8" outbreak has also been identified in wild birds and poultry in 12 other countries primarily in western Europe.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization said one of two separate worldwide bird flu epidemics was the outbreak in Japan and neighboring South Korea.

In the fight against the spread of a mutated form of the coronavirus, the Danish government has illegally ordered the mass killing of all mink in the country.
"We made a mistake," admitted Agriculture Minister Mogens Jensen on TV2. There is no legal basis to ask mink breeders outside the risk areas to cull their animals. At the same time Jensen called on the breeders to continue the emergency slaughter as planned.
Your cooperation is the best help to protect people's health. The government now wants to get a legal basis through parliament as soon as possible.

At a poultry farm in Kagawa Prefecture, another case of bird flu has been reported, the prefectural government said Sunday, marking the country's second outbreak of avian influenza at a farm this year.
A highly pathogenic strain is thought to be the virus. In the town of Higashikagawa, about 48,000 chickens being raised at the farm will be culled.
Three poultry farms within 3 kilometers of the affected facility were ordered by the prefectural government not to move their chickens and eggs, while nine farms within 3 to 10 kilometers were ordered not to move their chickens and eggs outside the 10-kilometer range.
