In PA the state senators quietly targeted at least 3 small counties, all of which Trump had won handily. Their proposal was to have a private co scrutinize the county’s ballots, for free a move outside the official processes used for election challenges

Only one county is known to have agreed to the senators’ request: rural Fulton County, on the Maryland border, where Trump performed better than anywhere else in the state, winning nearly 86 percent of the roughly 8,000 votes cast.
On Dec. 31, in the quiet of the winter holiday, county officials allowed a West Chester, Pa., company called #WakeTSI to spend an afternoon recounting about 1,000 mail-in ballots and taking data from county voting machines.

Nova Scotia #salt saved lives this winter – all our road salt comes from the #Pugwash salt mine. With snowstorms now over (we hope!), here’s a history of salt mining in #NovaScotia!

327-342 million years ago, global sea levels rose and fell many times. This repeatedly flooded #NovaScotia with what we call the Windsor Sea. #NS was near the equator at the time so the sea also evaporated repeatedly in the heat.

The evaporation of sea water left deposits of successive layers of salt. This process was repeated for millions of years until the original salt beds were far below earth’s surface. Subterranean pressures and heat compressed the salt into #NovaScotia’s huge rock #salt deposits. Image

We love getting questions about mining, minerals and geology! We were asked about historical copper mining around the #WaughsRiver in Tatamagouche, #CumberlandCounty. See this thread!

There are a number of copper occurrences around #WaughsRiver but only a modest amount of actual mining took place.
After their arrival in #Tatamagouche by 1710, the #Acadians attempted smelting small quantities of copper they found around the North Shore, but with little success. Image
For example, they had a small #copper mine on Mine Hole Brook, where it joined with #WaughsRiver from the west (close to where Black River joins the Waugh from the east).

We love getting questions about #mining, #minerals and #geology! We were recently asked about historical #gold mines around #Fenwick, #CumberlandCounty. Here’s our answer:

There are no documented #gold mines in the area but there have been numerous findings of gold in #copper deposits/occurrences in #Cumberland. For example, modest amounts of gold were found in the Blenkhorn copper mine near #Maccan.

#Gold sometimes became apparent when the #copper was smelted – small amounts were mixed in with the copper ore and were separated through processing.
Some other places in the area where gold was found, often in copper deposits:
