Ime Dalmacija je rimsko i datira iz prvog stoljeća poslije Krista.

Prve vijesti u pisanom tragu o našim krajevima ostavili su nam stari Grci.
Oni su još u 4. stoljeću prije Krista uplovili u Jadran i osnovali nekoliko svojih kolonija, na otocima i obali.
