When I was 18 I worked in a warehouse for cash. We distributed X-Country ski equipment. Some of the ski pole baskets were distorted by heat in shipping but fortunately would spring back if put into boiling water for five minutes. So I did that in our little shipping room.
It involved a big pot and an industrial propane burner in a little shipping room. Being illegal to use in the building, the boss had me do it with the shipping door closed. I don't remember when I first started getting light headed from Carbon Monoxide.
I staggered over to the door of the shipping room and tried to open it. It was tough because my brain wasn't processing the up/down buttons properly. I got it open before collapsing to the floor semi-conscious. I eventually told my boss and insisted we change the methods.

1. “The narrative around #Thanksgiving today ignores our history”

The story of America is incomplete without understanding the genocide of Indigenous populations

It is a day of national mourning #ThanksgivingDay #Thanksgiving2021 #NationalDayOfMourning

2. “To me, #Thanksgiving is a reminder of our resistance as Indigenous People navigating this settler society that continuously tries to erase & destroy us, yet we are still here.”

3/. For Indigenous Americans, #Thanksgiving = a #dayofmourning

For other Americans, #ThanksgivingDay = a day to start along the road of redemption

Redemption requires:
🌻Acknowledgment
🌻Contrition
🌻Penance (i.e. making amends)

At COP26 this man took two steps along this path

It’s unbelievable that BC hasn’t declared a #dayofmourning. Does the province really need to be invited by Indigenous peoples to do that? Do we need to sign a MOU? How many bodies? #215Indigenouschildren should be enough. Take action @jjhorgan @GraceALore @MurrayRankinNDP #bcpoli
On @CBContheisland today @MurrayRankinNDP said that his govt waits to get direction from Indigenous peoples on what to do next. That’s not true. It is a ruse that places the responsibility on those who are disempowered by those who are empowered. It’s shameful, harmful & racist.
Can anyone in BC imagine any scenario where the discovery of the remains of hundreds of children would not warrant a day of mourning? Or that the province would have the gall to say ‘gee, let’s wait to hear from community’ before taking action? That would never happen.

The Mayflower landed in 1620, carrying a group of religious zealots. And when these "Pilgrims" arrived at the place they called #Plymouth, they found there an abandoned Patuxet village where they could live. THREAD 1/x
The next part of the story, as it's told in the classroom, goes something like this: The #Pilgrims w/ their belt-buckle hats & Bibles landed in a vast untamed wilderness to make a New World for God. God in all His infinite glory provided them a village & a kind man, “Squanto” 2/x
who would help them settle their Promised Land. He would give them the gift of corn & they would celebrate by giving thanks. But the truth is more like this: Just 6 years earlier, in 1614, the English had already raided those same shores & taken the Patuxets into #slavery 3/x
