As we reach the end of week 10, I'd like to share some thoughts on this week's #CMOPBookClub read: #TheCarer by #DeborahMoggach. The book touches on issues common to all families, all over the world - how, as a family, we deal with the increasing dependence of a loved one...
It's not a new story - family pat/matriach has a health crisis and becomes increasingly dependent, eventually requiring live-in care. But this doesn't make it uninteresting. Quite the opposite...
Moggach tunes into real emotions and paints such a vivid picture that made me wonder if she was actually writing about my grannie... Uncomfortable, yes. But so, so important to help families 'express the previously unexpressed', as my mum put it. Thoughts anyone? 🤔📚
This week's reading for #CMOPBookClub is #TheCarer by #DeborahMoggach - this book hit close to home, reminding me of my own family and my frail, 94 year old grandmother who has required a 24-hour live-in carer for just over 1 year now... ⬇️
In fact, my mum identified with this book so much she stole it (dw, she's in my support bubble) - so no picture this week I'm afraid! Perhaps I should buy a copy for each of my uncles... ⬇️
Currently my grannie's increasing frailty and dependence are the elephant in the virtual room - this book might help us acknowledge and address key issues as a family 🤔 Thoughts anyone?
