FIXED THREAD DEEP DIVE INTO WHY WE NEED TO #ABOLISHTHEPOLICE . This is a (fixed) mega thread off everything I’ve had to learn and understand about #blacklivesmatter  , #blmprotests , #protesters, #acab , #SystemicRacism , #DefundingThePolice , #FirstTheyCame 1/x
Welcome to the knowledge that we didn’t have a police force until they were converted from runaway slave patrols after emancipation. It was founded to continue policing the black population legally into the Jim Crow law era after black people began to own property. 2/x
The ownership of property gives people certain rights to defend, protect and obey, behold CROP SHARES! Where you can legally work on a plot of land for money BUT don’t own it or have any executive rights over it. They have the same badge to this day. Systemic. 3/x

.@HouseDemocrats just passed six appropriations bills that included many MFOL priorities! If approved by the Senate and signed by POTUS we'd be a few steps closer to ending gun violence! Let's break down the positives and a few places we wish the bills went further.

🧵1/6
Thanks to congressional champions like @RepRobinKelly and @rosadelauro, and the grassroots advocacy of MFOL youth and survivors, the House approved 25 MILLION for the CDC & NIH each to research gun violence.

Our right to vote is at risk. We've been pushing for election protections at all levels of government because #VotingAccessSavesLives which is why it's great to see @HouseDemocrats increase funding to #ProtectOurVote ($6 million more than the White House is pushing for!).

Why today is a great day - but it's not nearly enough & we have to keep pushing.

A thread 🧵on the future of #DACA and the immigrants rights movement 👇🏾
After years of relentless attacks on immigrants, today’s Supreme Court decision is a much-needed win for our community. It’s a win for the organizers, advocates and #DACA recipients who fought so hard for this over so many administrations.

But it's only a partial win.
We have to keep in mind that the SCOTUS ruling is nothing permanent.

The way in which the program was terminated was wrong but the Trump Admin still has authority to revoke #DACA.

In many ways this decision is a roadmap to how the government can properly end program next time.

"A lot of us are still in shock and still trying to process what SCOTUS decided. This was a huge win but we have to keep in mind that this is nothing permanent." - Juana Guzman, RAICES Texas Community Organizer
"The core of the decision is that no one is disputing that the Trump Admin has authority to end DACA. The question was: in what manner can it be terminated.

SCOTUS decided that the memo in 2017 that rescinded DACA was insufficient to comply with the law." - Manoj Govindaiah
