1/ We just found out that the @WMATA board is considering suspending or banning people from transit after being arrested (not convicted, just arrested) for certain reasons. THAT’S BAD. @charlesallen #defundmpd
2/ This potential change would expand police power and grant metro police the authority to detain more people for more reasons.
3/ Enforcement would be up to @MetroTransitPD, police and will almost certainly perpetuate harmful stop-and-frisk practices and excessive use of force #defundmpd

We made it clear the first time @POTUS, you’re going to hear our demands, whether we’re inside or outside of the White House. You haven’t responded.

Now we’re back to make sure you understand us clearly: It’s #NoClimateNoDeal and No Compromises, No Excuses.

TOMORROW The DC Council’s Judiciary Committee will be holding an oversight hearing on the DC Police Department’s performance. So let’s see... how has the MPD performed over the last year? #DefundMPD #NoMoreStopAndFrisk
It stopped releasing data on stop-and-frisks, yet AGAIN violating the law. And again, when it was sued and forced to follow the law, it turned out MPD made a huge number of stops and a huge majority of those stops were of Black people. #NoMoreStopAndFrisk

After working with the Oath Keepers and other far right groups to detain and try to convict 2016 inauguration protesters, DC police made no attempt to prevent or stop the violent attack on the Capitol by some of those same far right groups... 🤔

In March, my friend, Nkiru and I published a 25-page chapter in the Handbook of Interpersonal Violence "Future Directions in Advocacy in Response to Interpersonal Violence" where we talk about policing, social services, and state + interpersonal violence. link.springer.com/referenceworke… Image
We wrote this before widespread calls to #DefundMPD and mainstream engagement w/ concepts of #abolition, but what I think this writing does is set the groundwork for why divestment from the state (including social services and any anti-violence programs that engage with police) +
divestment from the state is a mandate for survivor safety. policing is NOT an inevitability. state violence is not a necessary by-product of keeping survivors safe. we will never end sexual assault if we don't end the carceral state. Image

ABOUT LAST NIGHT. @DCPoliceDept, which claimed to be offended and betrayed by the idea that it was in any way in need of reform, used pepper spray, rubber bullets, and flash bangs on protesters in order to take down mutual aid stations and tents provided for homeless residents.
There is no blaming everything on federal agencies this time. While US Park Police were also involved this was @MayorBowser's @DCPoliceDept leading the way. The police department she wants to give $19 million on top of the $560 million it already has. #DefundMPD #DefundDCPolice
Let's review what they did to DC residents... We often try to avoid tweeting out re-traumatizing images and videos of violence but we think it's important this time for people to know exactly what happened here on "Black Lives Matter Plaza."

Two Black trans women were violently taken away from our community this week by patriarchal violence and white supremacy, and we cannot be silent about the fact that #BlackTransLivesMatter. Their names were Dominique “Rem’mie” Fells and Riah Milton. #SayHerName
They should still be here and we have to fight for folks while they’re still alive, which means fighting for housing, healthcare, safe communities, abolition, decrim, and dismantling patriarchal violence in our communities *and in ourselves.* #BlackTransLivesMatter
Black cis queers, what are we prepared to do to protect our trans, two-spirit and non-binary siblings? We need to put our bodies on the line, move resources, show up in solidarity, listen, move out the way and speak up (not over) about the violence our siblings experience.

Welcome new followers! #SurvivedandPunished is a prison abolition organization. We believe that prisons, detention centers, all forms of law enforcement, and punitive prosecution are rooted in systems of violence, including racial, anti-trans/queer, sexual & domestic violence. 1/
Our work focuses on criminalized survivors and the integrated relationship between systems of punishment + the pervasiveness of gender violence. We aim to #FreeAllSurvivors via mass defense projects, which would require the abolition of prisons and other systems of punishment. 2/
Our collective est. 2016 when freedom campaigns for 2 BIPOC criminalized survivors, @freemarissanow and @standwithnanhui joined hands, along w/ the Chicago Alliance to #FreeMarissaAlexander (now @LoveProtectOrg) and @c_c_w_p to come up w/ a national strategy to #FreeThemAll. 3/
