'The #PublicOrderBill..now been passed by Parliament in the UK, is deeply troubling legislation that is incompatible with the UK’s international human rights obligations regarding people’s rights to FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, PEACEFUL ASSEMBY and ASSOCIATION.. ohchr.org/en/press-relea…
It is especially worrying that the law expands the powers of the police to stop & search individuals, including WITHOUT SUSPICION; defines some of the new criminal offences in a vague & overly broad manner; & imposes UNNECESSARY & DISPROPORTIONATE criminal sanctions on people...

SCOTUS "agreement to hear Moore v. Harper... isn’t just bad news for efforts to control gerrymandering.

Democracy is at stake in the midterms. The media must convey that.

We journalists have to try harder and find new ways to convey to voters how badly things could turn out

Are we afraid to test the principle that no one is above the law?

Good question from @MattDallek
washingtonpost.com/outlook/2022/0…
"If Trump were indicted, he would become the first former president to stand criminal trial...

This list is hardly exhaustive and omits the dozen-plus civil lawsuits and civil investigations Trump faces."

"The rule of law, the notion that we are all equal under our criminal justice system, is among the noblest of principles but also the ugliest of myths.

The question of putting Trump on trial ... is a test for a principle of democracy"

I went on the @DinDpodcast alongside @ConStelz for a wide-ranging discussion about the state of democracy in a transatlantic perspective.

If you’re interested in the past, present, and possible future of pluralistic democracy, I promise this episode is for you.
We covered a lot of ground – topics include:

- Angela Merkel’s legacy – and how worried should we be about the future of German democracy?
- Has the pandemic taught us anything about the ability of democracies to handle collective action crises?
- ...
Also:

- The dangers of the “politics of anticipated backlash”
- Why we should be more skeptical of established narratives of democracy’s supposed triumph after the end of the Cold War, the rise of “populism,” or the “crisis” of liberal democracy in the 21st century
- ...

Let me say this categorically for it has to be said and someone has to make it clear. There is no connection or semblance of association of the word INTEGRITY with @ProfOsinbajo & @MBuhari. You say what you can’t put into action. The only consistent thing is your love for lies.
Only the brain damaged will sing the praises of economic gormandizers and rule of law subjugators, abusing the power of the state to perpetuate themselves in office. The blatant show of irresponsibility & lack of accountability prove they are the most corrupt duo in our history!

I may not be convinced about the Biafran idea but this Observation is valid. We are seeing signs of voter suppression with the intended militarization of the 2019 election. They are of the opinion that we are under a military rule because of the despotic stance of the President.
I was deeply disappointed when I read this from the Chief of Army Staff. It is tantamount to declaring war on democracy and militarizing the polls for suppression, oppression and reinforcement of voter fraud. punchng.com/2019-elections…
Anyone with a pulse and a speck of intelligence will realize the weightiness of this statement which evinces the adoption of military maneuvers in a democracy to perpetuate the admin in power by force. What is queer is that it is not coming from the President or CDS but COAS. 🤔

I have just got back from a week in Berlin. I no longer feel that I am 'home'. There is something so sick, so diseased about Brexitland: the cheating and lying that go unreported and unpunished; the craven behaviour of the BBC that renders it a hideous propaganda machine; the
abject failure of the Opposition to oppose; May's ludicrous, deluded, insulting claims to be 'keeping us united' and this outrageously obdurate determination to kill off democracy and to spit in the faces of our friends...these all combine to leave me feeling very bleak indeed.
In Berlin, I was reminded how amazing it is to be European, what a joy to feel part of this great movement for peace, fraternity and enterprise and how heart-breaking it is to think that a few corrupt bigots and kleptocrats could take this away.I am also depressed by my inability
