Uttar Pradesh Government in it's response to the application filed by Jamiat-I-Hind against #Demolition drive of UP Government said, demolition carried out by Kanpur and Prayagraj Development Authority strictly in compliance with UP Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973.
Earlier, the apex court had refused to intervene in Uttar Pradesh demolitions. Court had refused to grant stay as sought in applications filed against demolitions of properties in Prayagraj and Kanpur and directed authorities to follow due process of law.

States around the world are ordering people to stay “at home” to prevent the spread of Covid-19. But at the same time, many states are at risk of being evicted, while at least 150 million people worldwide are homeless and living on temporary shelters or sidewalks.
Residents in Ruai and Kariobangi were shocked waking up to demolitions on what is alleged to be disputed land.

The demolitions are wrong on grounds that currently we are battling a pandemic. Leaving citizens unhabited contradicts all directives of social distancing, and staying at home. It also increases risk of exposure of persons in the community to #COVID19
While the courts had asked for status quo to be maintained till an official decision was made, the state in contempt of the court ruling carried out the demolitions overnight with no directives on what's to happen to citizens.
