Explaining open interest in simple terms …

#OpenInterest is a measure of the number of outstanding #derivative contracts in a particular market.
It reflects the number of contracts that have not been closed or settled, and helps to show the level of activity in a market.
When open interest increases, it can indicate that new #money is entering the market.

1/ The #PhysicalVersusPaper discussion and the effect on silver’s price can be a heated topic. Part of the last “#spaces” event we touched on various #derivative products constructed by BofA and JP Morgan.
2/ Expanding on this topic where #Silver (the actual metal) is used as a ploy to create publicly traded #investments, let’s look at 2 more traded #securities.
3/ Just like buying processed food, what is on the front of the box may not necessarily have anything to do with the actual ingredients listed on the back label. Remember to read the #nutritional facts in the prospectus before consuming.

One word @CaitlinLong_: GREED.

You’ve been spot on. I struggled w/ noticing the same issue of #derivative and #TradFi games infecting #bitcoin & #Crypto over the last 1.5yrs or so.

Structurally it was quite easy to see. But...

/1 👉🧵 on a few thoughts.
you have to know how these things have played out in other markets as well as how intermarket relationships work within markets in general. And, you never really know how the change will play out. Especially, in new asset classes like #DigitalAssets.

/2
It felt like most in the space chose not to acknowledge the changes & continue to pump the narrative of NGU and BTFD with little regard for what’s *actually* happening w/ the fundamental picture. Time horizon matters. All participants have different goals.

1/10-Going through the 2nd week of the biggest corrections of this cycle (~ 50%), the ultimate questions in market are,
-Whether the cycle is over?
-How are the Exchange Flow conditions?
-What is the picture that on-chain metrics are giving about market in long-term?
🧵🔽
2/10- All-Exchanges Reserve has been declining since the beginning of this bull market. This trend was then upward on April 24th after prices dropped 64K > 50K [1A] = on-chain bearish sign.
3/10-Overall increasing level of bitcoin reserve on exchanges was due to Derivative-Exchanges (@Binance, @Bitrex )[1B]. The interesting point to notice here was the uninterrupted downtrend of bitcoin reserve on Spot-Exchanges (@Coinbase, @Kraken)[1C].

When we talk of IR #Interest #Rate #Risks we must understand the markets in which this product operates, and the fundamental pricing, trading, and hedging dynamics of this financial #derivative asset class.
Banks normally use IR Derivatives and Structured Products for on and/or off-balance-sheet ALM Asset Liability Management and Immunization, Bond Risk Hedging, NII Risk Hedging, Arbitrage Opportunity Exploration using the treasury based fixed income desks, Rate Speculation, etc.
Of course, we have other financial market participants such as Pension Funds, Hedge Funds, Insurance Companies, and several other specialized asset management firms, that have strategies and asset allocation models, which use IR derivative for both Macro and Micro-hedging.

#Options #CallOption #PutOption #StockMarket #Trading
🌟Definition of Option 🌟

#Option is a #derivative product. It gives the buyer of an option the right, but not the obligation to buy or
sell an underlying asset at a set price on or before a certain date.
There are two types of Option contracts - #Call and #Put.

A call option gives the holder the right to buy a stock.

A put option gives the holder the right to sell a stock.

👇(Both call & put are explained in detail below)👇

Why do young people leave quantitative trading 5 to 7 years in their career, and what's your advice for aspiring quantitative traders?
@CQFInstitute @RiskDotNet @icmacentre @RiskMinds
The burnout (losing interest in the job) and dropout(leaving the job) rates are stupendous.
#Quantitative Specialist Roles as they exist in the Dealing Room in the form of #Treasury, Brokerage, Fund Management, #Investment Management, #Portfolio #Asset Management, #Derivative Market Making, and various other Front -Office #Risk Roles are highly demanding jobs indeed!
Most of the traders are asked to take a mandatory leave of up to two weeks or more at financial institutions, so they can relax a bit by staying away from the financial markets.
