ah yes, I was going to say more about The Fear™, which is so difficult to discuss. discussing #fear in general is tough; the social taboos of Western culture and Western discourse forbid open discussion of fear. hardline Christianity is largely to blame; fear is useful to them.
fear is the chief weapon of Christian fanatics—e.g. @MattWalshBlog, @laurenboebert, @PastorMark, even mild-mannered @DouthatNYT—and they've good reason: they themselves are afraid. it's likely that they're at least partly afraid of *themselves*; they feel they need a tight leash.
that's the general effect of fear on the human psyche—limitation. your fears determine your boundaries and the range of your likely actions.

extremist Christians believe they've solved the problem of fear, through unwavering faith in...well, something. they have faith, though.

Ranjith R. Panathur grew up in a two-room shed built with stone & mud in a small village in north Kerala’s Kasaragod district.

Although his parents had studied only up to Class V, they had ensured their children received a good #education.

#Inspiration #Determination

Ranjith, who now has a doctorate in economics from IIT Madras, had also thought of quitting the PhD course and recalls encouragement from his former guide at IIT.

“I wanted to drop out since I was not fitting in with what was a new environment for me.

1/ It is once again a time for choosing for the Western world. Our governments appear to be stabilising the #sanctions regime and stalling on the range of #weapons to #Ukraine. Insufficient pressure is dangerous. As we can see, #Russian aggression continues.
2/ Fundamentally, the more the forces of the aggressor state gain ground and surround cities, the more harm they can and will do against innocent civilians. But the more the invaders are pushed back and suffer high losses in men and materiel, the better.
3/ For this reason, I advocate a quantum leap in #military assistance to #Ukraine, covering a broader volume and range of equipment and training (locations and modalities for specialists to determine).
Covert actions in concert with #Ukraine's defenders could also be useful.

In my neighbourhood there was a serial sex predator breaking into women's homes and sexually assaulting them in their own beds. It's bad enough that women routinely have to take more precautions than men to do basic things like go for a walk or a jog. 1/ #sexualassault #crime
I can't describe to you what it's like to be afraid to do something as necessary as falling asleep in your own bed at night. This is what happened to many women in my neighbourhood. 2/ #VAW
At the time this was going on, a lot of women talked to me about their fear, about being afraid in their own homes, being unable to fall asleep or stay asleep in their own beds. There were a lot of exhausted women in my neighbourhood. 3/ #crime #fear
