"Get your own back on your energy supplier and make money back from them!"

In this thread we consider the unintended consequences of the design of the Demand Flexibility Service (DFS)...
#dfs #demandflexilityservice #savingsessions #psychology #gametheory #energy 1/10
DFS is the scheme behind the schemes you may have seen such as @OctopusEnergy's Saving Sessions, which reward or pay you to use less energy than normal. In theory it saves suppliers money, saves the planet, and protects the grid. Good stuff. 2/10
But let's say I'm an energy-savvy consumer into min-maxing situations... 3/10

Week 9 College Football DFS Notes

/thread
The hardest part for me this week will be finding the right QBs to play. There aren't any slam dunk options that I feel fantastic about, which is unusual at this position in CFF.

I think you get the most bang for your buck in the 7.3k to 6.1k range. Finley, Purdy, Book, DJ U,
Sanders, Penix all fine options. With so many good RB options to consider, I find it hard to justify paying up too much for a QB. All of these guys mentioned have rushing upside and could put up big games & have decent floor. DJ U might be chalky but hard to overlook here.

Who’s up for a thread on the IRS Memo regarding daily fantasy sports contests and whether #DFS entry fees should be treated as “wagers” subject to a federal excise tax? Or should I save it for the next episode of @ConDetrimental? Either way, I’ll explain why the IRS got it wrong.
Thread on IRS Memo re: daily fantasy sports
The core issues are two-fold: (1) are DFS entry fees "wagers"? and (2) are DFS contest operators engaged in "the business of accepting wagers" through their acceptance of entry fees to compete in contests? The answer to both questions is "no" (IMO), and I will explain why below.

“Why do companies ask data structure&algorithm questions? It’s not like you’d use this day to day...”

At my past 3 companies - Skype/Microsoft, Skyscanner, Uber - I needed to use them to write some code, and *especially* to understand things. Here’s some examples. A thread.
At Skype, building Skype for Xbox One, the platform was missing a bunch of basic libraries. We built a navigation framework on top of WinJS that needed to keep track, and in some cases, traverse the DOM tree. #Trees, #DFS, #BFS
Also at Skype, one of the devs was obsessed with performance. For the contact list sorting, he built his own algo. I used the O(n) approach to tell him why this was silly. Then built a faster version. Then we benchmarked the built-in sort which was faster #sorting #facepalm
