One of the most dangerous sections; without distinguishing between falsehoods, factual information and opinions, this section creates the basis for a blanket block of any content that can make anyone think less of the government or public servants.

I want to give an update on the events from the last few days:
Two days ago, FBR sealed Jazz offices. We find this choice of action coercive and unfortunate. It distorts the truth and shatters investor confidence. This has to do only with an adverse order passed by the appellate tribunal and is not related to customers - withholding tax, GST
Seizing an office may be an appropriate response for criminals and extortionists, but not for a company that has served Pakistan's core economy for over two and a half decades, having seen several political cycles.

Sometimes less is more. We need less govt interaction esp when they are out of their depth on matters. Imagine the implications of a private party telling u what's good for you by engaging yet more foreign consultants. This happens due to lack of local stakeholders.
1st the govt had colonial separation anxiety now they going through Stockholm syndrome. International consultants are great for the business of kick backs & lining up personal coffers of the parties involved.Also their self aligned advice makes it kosher to hand out permits.
When the mindset is eye balls & info leader boards and induced traction, you can't resist the urge to do what you already know how to do. This is a self assurance rabbit hole that is similar to the group that gives its self annual awards for sponsoring a table at the event.
The amount of time it took to thank contributors, in the original tweet, if you made a TV ad of that duration with basic info and ran it on the tier 3/4 channels you would get more than a 110k people esp those who don't have a smart phone or internet access become instantly aware
Or use #DigitalPakistan goodness to also put the same ad on YouTube before all content, for free to get the ones with internet access to see it. Most of our national bandwidth goes to YouTube views. Use your super power for good deeds vs writeups and news coverages.
This whole #DigitalPakistan needs a re-think. This will keep getting lost in translation, if we confuse the objectives of the journey. No one needs any one to make Urdu cool again. Govt accountability beyond photo ops and stories of inclusion is the need of the hour.
Doing things that create value is what we need. Just glamorising startups in an economy where basic items need govt support, will lead an entire generation of young adults down a rabbit hole that is not funded by VC . We need to encourage workforce mobility via digitization
If the benchmark of success is putting out a crowdsourced Urdu doc after being called out for not putting a text version of English let alone Urdu, then fingers crossed on what KPIs this group intends to deliver on.Less optics more real actions, this vision still makes no sense
Citizens’ Protection (against online harm) Rules 2020 appear to be a continuation of the governments’ successive attempts to “tame” media and the Internet,& are a direct threat to Pakistan’s digital economy and the citizens’ rights to freedom of expression and privacy 🧵

Section 4(2) of Rules holds “the interpretation or permissibility of any online content, by the Authority or National Coordinator” supreme - demonstrating the attempt to centralise control of the digital eco system which is anti-democratic & threatens the democratic progress

The responsibilities of Social Media Companies as defined in the Rules are impractical and non-responsive to the realities of the global digital media market. It is highly unlikely that any of the social media giants, would agree to comply with these rules.
