Chloé is fiercely smart, funny, thoughtful and generous in both her memoir and this interview. I added "Easy Beauty" to my syllabus on beauty, culture and difference. I would also add it to your To Be Read pile.
Chloé explores the philosophy of beauty through her lived experience of disability, gender, and social class. She recommends several books at the end of the episode, including one of my favorites, Rosemarie Garland-Thomson's "Staring".

Thread. Been contemplating a lot on this recently. In my researching, it seems like 99% (basically all) of the literature on DOCs or Online Health Communities (OHCs) focuses on how participation benefits health. This has always irked me. 1/x #AcademicTwitter #DOC #dsma #hcsm
I get it. And that makes sense. DOCs and OHCs are important because they DO SOMETHING for folks. It isn’t all good all the time, but overall, people seem to benefit in some way by talking to others like them. By sharing their stories. 2/x
What irks me, is that research has yet to move beyond health implications. And, it isn’t because that’s all that is happening there. It’s because it is what health-researchers care the most about. They're asking the questions, and they're all related to individual health. 3/x
I need someone with time & skills to do a detailed discourse analysis of the responses to @SelmaBlair’s #OscarAwards look on social media. It for now here’s my quick morning take, a thread particularly for nondisabled folks.
Among my #DisabilityRights, #disabilityjustice & #disabilitystudies comrades, there’s excitement about the power of representation. Blair’s look, like hashtags #DisabledAndCute & #DisabledPeopleAreHot, demonstrate disabled bodyminds & accoutrements like canes can be attractive 
However, some of the general comments on images & stories of Blair, while seemingly “positive,” are DEEPLY #ableist in that they rely on notions of bravery, pity, overcoming & shock at the attractiveness of a disabled bodyminds. Let’s break down the problems with each response.
Okay so, when I'm shopping there are a few do's and donts when it comes to how I choose my stuff (and it'll explain why I hate winter fashion despite it definitely being the nicest season for clothes)
I tend to prefer short sleeves. I definitely do have some long sleeve things but often I just find them a hindrance. The sleeves normally get dirty on my wheels and often rolling them up is uncomfortable and the outfit just doesn't look the same
I have to avoid stuff like jumpsuits even though a true power move is arriving to anything in a jumpsuit. They're just designed for standing up people, and it becomes a sea of fabric: I look like a big blob because of how they sit on me (which is v sad)
