Heard on @cafedotcom Insider with @PreetBharara and @AnneMilgram that the voter turnout in this election is expected to be the highest since 1908. Here's who couldn't vote in 1908. THREAD 1/14
Women. 19th amendment passed in 1920 granting equal access to the polls for #womenvoters. 2/14
Native Americans. The Indian Citizenship Act passed in 1924 granting #citizenship for all Native Americans (that's some audacity that the original inhabitants of this land were not citizens🤨). Some western states still didn't fully allow Native Americans voting until 1948. 3/14

So last night a young man stopped by our Letters to Voters event at a park, wondering what we were doing. When we asked if he was registered to vote, he said he had a felony conviction, "I'd like to, but I don't know that I can vote."
😭😭😭

We asked if he was off paper.
Yes, he said, for 5 months now.
Do you have your release papers?
I sure do, that's my ID! I keep it safe!

Good. He just needs to take that to his parole or probation release paper to the county clerk's office, to register to #vote #restoration
His face lit up! 🌞🌞🌞
"I can do that! I want to vote!"

What better way to reintegrate someone into society than help them navigate the ways citizens are expected to take care of our society -- #VOTING being a major part of our civic responsibilities?

A quick thread on #Brexit, why the UK is not going to go back to normal politics after Brexit, why the worst is yet to come, and the folly of policy-driven (libertarian or socialist #Lexit) Brexits.
To many, Brexit is abt “Taking Back Control,” a legitimate perspective in times of increasing interdependence and growth of int'l institutions. However, the undertone is often that control has been relinquished *without good reason.*
Here’s the political science perspective: The flipside of democratic control, #responsiveness, can be policy instability. If majoritarian decisions can always b overturned, some policies r dysfunctional bc actors won't investments (financial or social) necessary to make it work.

308 days til the 2018 Midterm Elections. It's time to talk about HOW we take back the House & Senate.

THE STRATEGY MUST BE TWO-FOLD:

1. DEFEND BLUE SEATS. #KeepItBlue
2. FLIP RED SEATS. #FlipItBlue

[THREAD]
#SENATE: DEMs are at a "disadvantage" and ON THE DEFENSE.

DEMOCRATS and Independents must DEFEND 25 SEATS.

REPUBLICANS must only DEFEND 9 SEATS.

For a Majority, DEMS MUST KEEP ALL SEATS...and #FLIP2 BLUE.
#SENATE: TRUMP WON 10 STATES w/ SEATS DEMs MUST DEFEND.

Montana, North Dakota, Missouri, Wisconsin, Florida, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

HILLARY WON 1 STATE GOP MUST DEFEND...Nevada.
