Let me start with #insulin. In the 1970s, insulin was extracted from the pancreas of animals. In the 1980s, @Genentech, working with Eli Lilly (@LillyPad), developed insulin using a new technology that I call #PrecisionFermentation. It wasn’t animal insulin. It was human insulin.
The mainstream would say: “health care is slow, it can’t be disrupted.”

Well, here’s the S-curve of #PrecisionFermentation human insulin. Human insulin disrupted animal insulin in about 13 years.
#PrecisionFermentation is a concept that I coined in my @rethink_x report ‘Rethinking Food and Agriculture’ with @CatherineTubb in September 2019.

9. Hello again, @akgungor_c continues from where he has left :) So, I tend to think of #disasters as systemic “radiographs”. I’m not sure when I first came up with this analogy but I usually associate this idea with my own experience as a search & rescue volunteer.
10. After all, looking around in a disaster-stricken zone, few people don't come to reflect on their own #vulnerability first, then, gradually, about the vulnerability of human societies to massive #disruptions.
11. The greater the impact, the thinner seems the protective bubble provided by our physical and social systems.

In a recent paper, with Alexander Chudik @DallasFed, M Hashem Pesaran @USCDornsife, @mraissi80 @IMFNews & @arebucci1 @JHUCarey, we develop a threshold-augmented dynamic multi-country model (#TGVAR) to quantify the #macroeconomic effects of #Covid19: econ.cam.ac.uk/research/cwpe-… 1/n Image
Key challenges with the empirical #economic analysis of #Covid19 include the following: how to identify the shock, how to account for its non-linear effects, & how to quantify its effects while accounting for spillovers, common global factors, network effects and uncertainty. 2/n
We contribute to the literature by addressing these issues in a coherent multi-country framework. We offer an identification strategy for the #Covid19 shock considering that a synthetic control method cannot be applied in the context of a global #pandemic. 3/n

Sharing the @ColumbiaSIPA #CyberThreatIntelligence capstone report that my team worked on over Spring 2020 for @Nzc2ZjZjNjY at Standard Chartered Bank. We examined the impact of public disclosures and leaks had on cyber adversary operations.

By examining 8 different groups (APT1, APT10, Cobalt Group, APT 33, APT 34, APT38/Lazarus Group, APT28 and APT29) we were confident to state that while public #disclosures impose short term #friction, they frequently fail to result in long-term #disruptions.

(2/4)
We believe that while beneficial to the objectives of #USCyberCom #PersistentEngagement, consistent disclosures have enabled adversaries to become resilient - either by encouraging rapidly retooling or allowing them to use compromised tooling on softer targets.
