2. One of the key findings of the report is that daily news podcasts punch above their weight

According to @ChartableDotCom data, they represent 1% of the podcasts produced, but up to 10% of the top podcast episodes in some countries Image
3. Looking across the six countries covered by the report, we have counted 102 daily news podcasts, of which 37 were launched in the last year.

As the chart shows, growth picked up after @nytimes launched 'The Daily' in January 2017 Image

In our latest #DNR20 podcast episode @nicnewman talks to host @fedecherubini on how news outlets are trying to build deeper engagement with new and existing audiences through habit-creating content like email newsletters and podcasts.

Snippets of the conversation below👇
"Digital media was primarily about selling advertisers mass audience, it was all about reach/scale. The focus is switching now to how you can make money more directly by serving or super-serving loyal readers. We’re moving from reach to deeper engagement." - @nicnewman
🛎️Nic says building habit is a mixture of engagement - through content such as podcasts, videos, long reads, physical events - and how you remind people as they go about their daily lives through mobile alerts and email “that you have something valuable for them”

“Although trust scores are high we also see people are much more concerned in 🇰🇪and 🇿🇦 about misinformation, with around 70%+ saying they find it hard to tell the difference between what’s true/false on the internet,” says #DNR20 author @nicnewman

On 16 June we published #DNR20, the most comprehensive report on news consumption worldwide.

🌏 Since then, the report has been featured in at least 1,245 news articles, published by 971 news outlets from 73 different countries.

📰 Here's a sample of that news coverage so far
💰 “The business of news remains bleak. But a ray of hope may be that increasing numbers of people are willing to pay for news online, though that may also increase informational inequality” writes @GuyReuters from @Reuters uk.reuters.com/article/uk-glo…
🇩🇪 "Almost all newspapers, publishers, broadcasters and media companies [in Germany] were less trusted in 2020 compared to a year ago," writes @antonrainer at @derspiegel

We document big, global trends every year in @risj_oxford Digital News Report, but also important country-to-country differences.

Here some from Latin America, drawing on talk I gave to @FundacionGabo panel w/@morenobarber @VianaNatalia @mtronderos & @eduardosuarez #DNR20 1/6 Image
In most countries we cover, trust in "news I use" and "news overall" is significantly higher than trust in news found via search engines and news on social media.

But not everwhere, for example Chile (and some other countries), where trust is similar across the board #DNR20 2/6 Image
And while in e.g. the United States, people on the political left trust news much more than people on the political right, in e.g. Mexico, the pattern is the opposite (and the difference much smaller), with people on the right trusting news more than people on the left 3/6 Image
