The Mail under Dacre has been criticised for an alleged racist attitude towards the stories it covers. Nick Davies recounts an anecdote from a former Snr news reporter who, en route to a murder scene of a woman & her two children was told to return because the victims were black.

Counter-argument:
"they were too dark to have behind the words of the headline"
1) Seriously?
2) Increase brightness and blur. I do it all the time.
3) They could have just cropped the photo. They didn't need to show more of the classroom but erase them from it.

Repeat after my repeat because I've said this twice now. This wasn't a crop. The black kid was individually cut out of the image. They had to digitally cut around that black girl. That didn't happen to any of the other kids. (notice where the book ends)
Priceless. Government suggests the problem is weak social media regulation, not non-existent press regulation. Wilful blindness not to acknowledge irresponsible reporting by their friends at the Sun, Mail etc drove social media pile-ons. 1/3 theguardian.com/media/2020/feb…
The problem for the government is that the more they demand action on online harms from Facebook, Twitter etc, the more those companies will be forced to point out how much of the harm is caused by dishonest, unethical UK news outlets. 2/3
