O Ouro vem sendo desmonetizado desde seu último rally na década de 80. Pode-se dizer que quem comprou Ouro no fim de 1980 vai precisar torcer pra uma demanda forte ou choque de oferta que coloque seu preço 561% acima de hoje.(Pra chegar no poder de compra de 40 anos atrás) 
Se você observar o poder de compra de $1 dólar(linha verde), a desvalorização é ainda mais veloz. O que pode dar a impressão que o Ouro é uma boa reserva de valor. Onde tudo cai, quem cai menos é reserva de valor?!
