2/On 11/26/21, the @WHO officially designated B.1.1.529 (#omicron) a "variant of concern."
It cited a "large number of mutations, some of which are concerning" and "preliminary evidence" of "an increased risk of reinfection with this variant.."

3/In short, scientists are concerned because #omicron exhibits an unusual number of mutations across the #SARSCoV2 genome, with >30 on the spike protein.
The spike is the part of the virus that allows it to gain access to human cells and reproduce. (h/t @_nference)

I think it is too premature to even think so. AFAIK, there is still only one ST of #SARSCoV2. It is nothing but a SCAREMONGERING news! 1/

Like all viruses, #SARSCoV2 will continue to evolve. But it has limited number of moves available. It seems it is near to its ‘end game’. There is just not a lot of space for the spike to continue to change in ways that allow it to evade Abs but still bind to its receptors 2/
#Substitutions that allow the virus to resist antibodies will probably also decrease its affinity for #hACE2. This is exactly what we have seen with #DeltaPlus 3/

- on devrait arriver au million de vaccins fin janvier
- il n'est pas sûr qu'on vaccine tous les fragiles avant l'été

Sachant que le variant anglais #B117 va devenir prédominant en France entre mi février et mi mars selon les modélisations de @Inserm / @institutpasteur, c'est donc une question de temps... confiner AVANT, par exemple au moment des vacances scolaires serait la meilleure solution

@FrankNBraun @ulfposh @welt Kontakteinschränkungen bis auf ein R <0,7 erforderlich. Vulnerable Gruppen zu schützen bedeutet beileibe nicht nur "Heime schützen" - 20 Mio. sind vulnerabel, aber nicht in Heimen, da jünger oder jung. Die Diskussion übersieht die chronisch Kranken, die Krebskranken, (3)

In fact, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Corona-ordinance really prohibits entry of people from international risk areas AND german risk areas as well.
It's just not prominently featured on their websites.
