A 66yr old lady from Suffolk, has recently noticed a firm breast lump & is worried it might be cancer.

She's heard her local MP @MattHancock, singing the praises of @babylonhealth, so turns to their #eHealth Chatbot for advice.

This #BreastLump triage is utterly absurd👇
It's worth highlighting some of issues with this #BreastLump triage, as it flags 'fundamental flaws' within the Babylon system.

Our 66yr old lady is "worried about a breast lump".

The first triage question is "Are you pregnant" 🤔
It also asks about breastfeeding twice 😕
The resulting list of 'possible causes' - is the product of a poorly developed, inadequately tested, unvalidated, flawed decision tree.

It's of no value to our patient who was worried about her breast lump, & if anything will have increased their anxiety. @mgtmccartney

Artificial Intelligence & Health: On my way to a round table on how the UK should plan, manage and grow its capability. Let me know your views to share. #AI #health #ehealth #mhealth @OfficialNIHR @NIHRIOUK

My personal views in 4 tweets (I have many more shared over coffee!):
1) Create world leading annotated datasets (with the right governance) to build #AI tools to deliver value back to the #NHS these are vital to ensure the quality of outputs and also dataset for us to standardise understanding effectiveness. A #UKBioBank for data?
2) Use these datasets to create a world leading regulatory environment to ensure value back to the #NHS The lack of regulation of AI prevents it being used in the #NHS before we even start with local implementation and change management (which is vital).

#35c3 #eHealth

This thread follows on from a prior thread ('Bad Bot' - part I) & picks up the Babylon story from the #BabylonAITest event which was held on the 27th June 2018.

'Bad Bot' (part I) - 👇 1/45
The #BabylonAITest event was held at @RCPLondon & promised to reveal to the world, Babylon's latest "ground breaking research" & "the most exciting advances in Artificial Intelligence".

Dr Murphy was expecting Big Things from @babylonhealth...

is not a 'nerd'; he's a pretty typical NHS consultant with an interest in #PatientSafety.

On 6th Jan 2017 a tweet about an #eHealth #AI #Chatbot in #NHS trials caught his attention, so he thought he'd take a look. 1/44

Evidence here 👇
Dr Murphy downloaded the @babylonhealth App & tried the #Chatbot with a few simple clinical presentations. It quickly became apparent that the #Chatbot had flaws, raising the question if the App had been validated as a triage tool?

As evidenced by👇 2/44
