An unfortunate, but sadly, expected outcome.
While there’s a lot of outrage over how things have transpired, I intend for this 🧵 to be an informative exercise more than anything else- you may look at it as a rant as well:
1. This screenshot of the ‘Dec ‘22 Visa Bulletin’ issued by the @StateDept illustrates the US green-card "priority dates" for people who have an APPROVED immigrant (permanent residency) petition in the employment-based
(EB) categories as of Dec 2022. Image
2. A “priority date” is the date on which an applicant's green card petition is/was approved.
Post-approval, an applicant must wait to apply to get a green card until one becomes available. There are limits on the number of GCs available per year in each category, including EB.

Firstly, "nations" do not get green cards. That characterization is *as* wrong as saying that "races" get driving licenses at the DMV. We would not be okay with race-based lines at the DMV. The same principle applies.

Hard numerical cap (140K) is a low number that causes a burdensome backlog. That burden should be equally shared by all applicants *because* that's where it rightfully belongs. National origin should not determine if two ppl with identical quals get treated differently.

If only 2 vaccine counters were open at the hospital, & only 100 ppl could be served daily, then the backlog would not be distributed by race or national origin. Would we have been okay with race/national origin based lines for Covid vaccines? It's a morally abhorrent system.

315 days for a USCIS officer to (randomly) look into my case and finally endorse that someone who has been approved by the system for 10+ years is in fact a genuine #H4 spouse and not a threat to the nation in any way. #H4EADdelays 1/
After such long-drawn-out mental agony, it is only human to feel overwhelmed by sudden disbelief and mixed emotions. For a while you feel grateful for being finally "allowed" to breathe.. even if the relief is short-lived. #H4EADdelays 2/
Today, 322 days after filing, I finally have my #H4EAD card in hand. I realize how strongly this document dictates my life/well-being and also how many others on H4/L2 visas are still anxiously awaiting their turn. 3/

Dear @FWDus the problem of H-4
children aging out is solely caused by racist green card backlogs.
What @FWDus is doing is like hoping that a COVID will go away using temporary pain medication, while what is really needed is the vaccine to eradicate the virus of racism in our immigration code.
#EAGLEACT #GREENCARDEQUALITY
Groups like @FWDus are portraying as if age out issue is separate from backlog issue. Dividing our families like this is morally repugnant & political gamesmanship. Tell @FWDus to stop pretending to help.

#USCISMadeMeQuit my professional identity, crippled my finances, burdened me with anxiety & depression - all this during a pandemic while I was in bereavement, and excelling at work was my major source of healing #H4EADdelays are so much more than job losses (1/5)
Employer-backed expedite requests through Congress denied twice over 9 months; with no end in sight to resolving #H4EADdelays, my former position will be filled this week. I am struggling to find any strength remaining to start over AGAIN (2/5)
10yrs ago I started serving as a local community volunteer. When #H4EAD came along (thanks to @BarackObama ) I proved myself from the ground up in non-profits that served the interests of this country. I did my part wholeheartedly while enduring the unfair #GCbacklog (3/5)
