JBI’s approach to evidence-based healthcare is unique. JBI considers #EBHC as decision-making that considers the feasibility, appropriateness, meaningfulness and effectiveness (FAME) of healthcare practices. Read below to learn more about the JBI Model of EBHC. 
The inner circle represents the pebble of knowledge while the inner wedges provide JBI’s conceptualisation of the steps involved in the process of achieving an evidence-based approach to clinical decision-making.
The outer wedges operationalise the component parts of the Model and articulate how they might be actioned in a pragmatic way. The arrows indicate that the flow can be bi-directional.

Qualitative methods & data are increasing in usage in #EBHC research. Instead of quantifying or statistically portraying the data or findings, qualitative research focuses on individuals & gives voice to the patient/client or provider in the healthcare decision-making process.

Systematic reviews of etiology & risk factors assess the relationship (association) between certain factors (whether genetic or environmental for example) and the development of a disease or condition or other health outcome.

Informed consent is considered a continuous & dynamic process, and it becomes complex in paediatric clinical practice, where parents must make decisions for their children.
The aim of the evidence implementation project was to evaluate current practice and implement best practice related to promoting informed consent in nursing and medical procedures, as well as surgical consent in the paediatric hospital.

Abuse & disrespect in childbirth care has been deemed a public health issue in Brazil. Many studies have documented the prevalence of discriminatory & hostile attitudes in childbirth care.
Only 5.6% of Brazilian women have normal births without inappropriate & excessive invasive (often not informed or consented to) interventions during vaginal birth, eg the Kristeller manoeuvre, often leading to poor obstetric outcomes.

Yanni Wu is an advanced research nurse at Nanfang Hospital. She conducted a clinical audit of pre-treatment assessment for patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy which indicated significant deficits in pre-treatment assessment nursing practice at Nanfang Hospital.

Sickle cell disease is a serious, inherited, lifelong condition that affects most countries in the African region. It is associated with a very high rate of mortality of about 50-90% & lifelong morbidity. In some areas of sub-Saharan Africa, up to 2% of all children are born SCD.
Adolescents with sickle cell disease have the highest rate of morbidity as they struggle to manage their condition through early recognition of signs & symptoms, when to seek medical care & in practicing routine selfcare behaviours.

According to the @WHO, almost all maternal deaths during pregnancy, delivery or within 42 days of childbirth occur in low-resource settings, and most could have been prevented.
Cameroon is one of the countries with the highest maternal and neonatal mortality rates. Dr Valery Nji implemented evidence-based strategies to improve the quality of care during labour in order to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality.

In the National Health Service (NHS) in England, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) decide what services are required for diverse populations and ensure their provision.
Hannah Syed is a medicines management adviser for Eastbourne, Hailsham & Seaford CCG, and Hastings & Rother CCGs. She observed that prescribing levels for diabetes, in particular, GLP-1 mimetics, were much higher than the national average in both these CCGs.
