Our reponse to the IPCC AR6: Scientific establishments are starting to say what climate activists have been saying for decades: we are beyond the precipice, our only hope is a political revolution.
Climate tipping points are already breached, our weather violently disturbed, our food supplies at risk, our water endangered, our homes threatened, and our prospects for survival under siege.
Terrifyingly - this is the conservative view, the inescapable reality wrapped in a soft and agreeable tone. The truth is we have been murdered in our sleep, our futures stripped and sold like assets, gambling chips in the games of billionaires.

Hi, it’s your friendly neighborhood climate scientist. Facing the #climatecrisis is tough! Here’s the essentials you need to know, tips for finding where you can contribute with purpose and meaning to the work needed, and evidence-based high-impact climate actions. A THREAD: 1/n
(A quick introduction if we haven’t met: I’m a climate and sustainability scientist @lunduniversity in Sweden. I research personal & policy climate solutions, sustainable food & land systems, & wine & climate change. My goal: a world where people and nature can thrive. 2/n)
@lunduniversity #ClimateChange science has been clear for a long time. I’ve taught this framework for over a decade:
It’s warming
It’s us
We’re sure
It’s bad
We can fix it.

Summer Solstice.
An opportune time to restate the case.
We face a double catastrophe; #climatechange and #ecologicalcrisis
Whilst the ecological crisis can be at least partially reversed, given the right conditions, the climate crisis cannot. 1/
With more and more co2 and other gigs being released, we are accelerating towards a planet AT LEAST 2°C warmer than at present. It's unlikely to happen in a smooth, linear fashion, some years a little cooler, followed by big jumps in temperature. 2/
We'll hit some tipping points, which may take us way higher than 2°C of warming.
None of this is good for the other species we share our planet with. The ecological crisis will deepen.
Given we know these things 3/

I recently watched #BreakingBoundaries on @Netflix and have rather mixed views about it. Here is a short🧵on what I perceived were some of its pros and cons…
First the pros. It is one of the few environmental documentaries that sets out to cover the full breadth of the #EcologicalCrisis we are in. Climate is properly placed as just one of the many extremely serious threats we face from environmental degradation.
This film therefore makes it clear that the question of sustainability is far FAR larger than simply about how we can reduce carbon emissions to net-zero.

This is a tremendous step forward: bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…

If it's designed well, this target could power the policy & investment needed to turn round the decline of #nature at last.

Thank you to everyone who has joined the #StateofNature campaign! Keep going until it's in law.
It has been brilliant to see the #environment movement unite for this critical law for wildlife, combining @WCL_News members with great friends like @Team4Nature & @mentalhealth.

Thank you @DefraGovUK for listening to the 60+ charities and 160,000+ people backing #StateofNature.
Now we need to make sure that the details of the target are right: it must cover as many #species as possible, with measures for abundance & diversity of #wildlife. We'll need an action plan for delivery, clear reporting to Parliament and accountability.
