2) His administration has termed this strategy the "maximum pressure policy." It basically consists of imperiling the Iranian civilian population's livelihoods, safety, health and even lives with the objective of coercing Iran's government into giving political concessions.
3) Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has laid out this strategy in no uncertain terms: Iranian leaders must listen to the U.S if "they want their people to eat"!

Zarif is not only Iran's chief diplomat, but also its chief liar. He charms overly comfortable, idealistic Americans into believing that he wants the same as them, and that the regime in Tehran is a benign, responsible actor.
Of course, much of Washington's elite buys the shiny car that the greasy diplomat is selling them, and therefore will not challenge him, even if, under the thin layer of paint, there is a broken down, used vehicle.
