There are some clinicians who have been contacted by families who believe the photos in a slide presentation are of a loved one. Even when that has not been the case, the advice from the hospital legal department has been to remove the presentation or pictures. #MedTwitter
This has happened as conferences have gone online & information is open to the public. I am a huge fan of transparency & patients owning their own #data. It's also challenging when family members may have different perspectives than elder parents. #elderabuse truly is common.
The issues are that with the various privacy protections, if there is a perception of a certain patient's data or photo being used but it is someone else's with appropriate permissions, then there is no way to "prove" it to the concerned family. Why draconian gatekeeping happens.

So, there’s a lawyer and a care company shaking down my parents for $100,000 after the company provided workers who took loans from my parents and slept on the job.

We fired them for bad service and somehow we owe them $100,000. #elderabuse #lawyers (1 of 3 parts)
Even if my parents breached contract, this is a shakedown of senior citizens and everyone should know about it, including the NJ Bar Association. #ethics @NewJerseyOAG (2 of 3 parts)
Vulnerable adults shouldn’t be attacked by lawyers. I’ll tell everyone. Satire. Of course. Oh and it’s not slander if it’s in court documents, so don’t give me that.

Elder abuse is the abuse of older people by those in a position of trust, frequently family members, but also friends, carers, etc. It can be financial, physical, psychological, sexual, or neglect, and frequently older adults experience several of these types. #WEAAD2020 2/14
Elder abuse is not a minor problem. A systematic review and meta-analysis published in 2017 estimated a pooled prevalence rate of 15.7% for adults aged 60 or older living in the community. #WEAAD2020 bit.ly/37r4B6M 3/14
