"I can’t breathe. I have my ID right here. My name is Elijah McClain. That’s my house. I was just going home. I’m an introvert. I’m just different. That’s all. I’m so sorry. I have no gun. I don’t do that stuff. I don’t do any fighting. Why are you attacking me?
"I don’t even kill flies! I don’t eat meat! But I don’t judge people, I don’t judge people who do eat meat. Forgive me. All I was trying to do was become better. I will do it. I will do anything. Sacrifice my identity, I’ll do it. You all are phenomenal.
"You are beautiful and I love you. Try to forgive me. I’m a mood Gemini. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Ow, that really hurt. You are all very strong. Teamwork makes the dream work. Oh, I’m sorry I wasn’t trying to do that. I just can’t breathe correctly."

In around April 2020 I changed my username from @GodlessNZ to @FreedomFriesInc.

This account was originally set up to participate in secularism discussions. From Feb 2016 it morphed into 95% US politics. A topic I love to follow.
#FreedomFries pops up in the news from time to time and is still largely misunderstood in the US.

In 2003 it was a joke "trend" or "meme" among those who supported the US-led coalition to topple Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

I supported it and still do.

Two years ago #ElijahMcClain had a deadly encounter with police officers and paramedics in Aurora #Colorado. Today, three of the officers and two paramedics were charged in connection to his death.
The charges handed down by a grand jury to each of the five defendants are one charge of manslaughter, one charge of criminally negligent homicide, and various assault charges.
On August 23, 2019, McClain, a 23-year-old Black man, was walking home from a convenience store listening to music through his headphones and dancing, while also wearing a ski mask for warmth since he was anemic. Someone who saw him thought he looked suspicious and called 9-1-1.

(1) This will go down in history as a major Presidential Address from Biden.

I look fwd to reading the transcript and commenting here. Meantime, watch this short, factual video about voting rights & why they matter so much. To everyone.

Video:
(2) ICYMI somehow, I am (proudly) #ExMAGA and #ExGOP because 1/6 and its aftermath was the last straw.

During my time inside the cult, I learned the talking points on voting rights that are used by both sides.
(3) So, when I make time to read Biden's transcript I can show you what each side will be saying about it, and why.

The other day I found out that VP Harris supports both voter ID and competent policy analysis (my profession) work being done about it.

2/5 そして一人の黒人女性として、私は私のプレーぶりを観てもらうことよりも、今すぐに関心を向けるべき、はるかに大切なことがあるのではないかと、そう感じざるを得ないでいます。

So the attention and condemnation this department rec’d regarding the death of #ElijahMcClain meant nothing. Last week when asked during his House Jud Cmtee testimony about McClain, the Attorney General had no idea who McClain was. So these ofcrs know they are under no scrutiny.
Here’s Barr in response to a question from Rep. Karen Bass expressing his ignorance of the police killing of an innocent Black young man in Aurora, CO. No wonder the ofcrs in this dept can commit outrages without fear of accountability. #ElijahMcClain
The DOJ provides hundreds of thousands in grants to the Aurora PD every year. …icefundingdatabase.tminstituteldf.org/report Maybe the AG should more rigorously scrutinize funding recipients to ensure they comply with the Civil Rights Act bar on money to programs that engage in discrimination.

Bill Barr said he's never heard of #ElijahMcClain. Barr clearly has no clue nor regard for what these protests are all about.
"Will you stop the burning and destruction of federal property and give Americans confidence without the risk of this terrorism?" @mattgaetz to Barr.
Bill Barr is asked about mail-in voting and if he's ever done it.

"Apparently I did once, I believe."

Okay, so another Charleston almost happened tonight at the APD protest in Aurora for Elijah McClain. 😡🤬 When we were blocking I-225, a Jeep drove around the cars protecting us at the back of the group and tried to accelerate into the crowd in an attempt to kill us. 1/6
A man (I believe a veteran) in a white truck saw this and crashed his truck into the jeep, side swiping him and he saved countless lives. The front left of the Jeep was destroyed and the tire blew, but he straightened himself and again accelerated through the crowd. 2/6
Everyone scattered and the Jeep was slower because it was crippled, which allowed people to get out of the way. As it drove away to exit on 6th, protestors with open carry guns opened fire and shot 3-4 times at the Jeep and into the crowd. A protestor was shot. 3/6

Boosting this Public Health project that is a model for other professions (ahem social work, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, etc.)

A pledge for public health professionals & researchers to NOT collaborate with law enforcement, incl federal, state, county, or local police and ICE.
Some recent examples of how this can be done-

A powerful medium piece by a doctor who refused to treat a man without his consent just because the police tried to make her and her awareness of how her profession has been used to harm: zora.medium.com/the-police-tri…
What if paramedics and EMTs refused to punitively and dangerously administer ketamine just because police instructed them to? We would still have #ElijahMcClain and dozens of others whose names we will never know: thecut.com/2020/06/elijah…

@coreyandreasen @mraspinall Stop using the word attack- it’s not an attack

Breonna Taylor was attacked
Elijah McClain was attacked

This is a fragility narrative that is designed to promote an innocent quality and design a narrative that these women just accidentally made a choice they made consciously
@coreyandreasen @mraspinall Education is not about me centering women who know better and reconstructing a world where I project innocence on them to allow them to engage in fragility

I reject this narrative you are forming where education is centering their needs and priority
@coreyandreasen @mraspinall No one was “torn down” again that is another fragility narrative. They were told the truth

No one prioritized their growth and you all believe they should be centered while being problematic- a demand for free labor and if you don’t do it you aren’t committed to “education”

As the entire world demands answers over the killing of #ElijahMcClain I have a little story to tell you about Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman you might find interesting. Maybe not. Tell me what you think. #copolitics
On November 19, 2005, 24 Iraqi civilians were killed by U.S. Marines near the town of Haditha. Despite a clear attempt to cover this incident up, the killings eventually become known as the Haditha Massacre. #ElijahMcClain #copolitics
Shortly after, Marine Lt. Col. Mike Coffman was assigned to Haditha as a civil affairs officer. The Denver Post reported June 1, 2006 that when Coffman talked to Haditha city leaders, they didn't mention a massacre... denverpost.com/2006/06/01/sem… #elijahmcclain #copolitics

“This is that snowball that turns into an avalanche,” he says. @TB_Times Image

DENVER – The following statement has been issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado, the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, and the Denver Division of the FBI:
“The standard practice of the Department of Justice is to not discuss the existence or progress of ongoing investigations. However, there are specific cases in which doing so is warranted if such information is in the best interest of the public and public safety.

We drug policy reform advocates need to talk abt how police use the very drugs we advocate for to save lives (e.g. naloxone, ketamine) to harm. Punitive naloxone use in ODs to induce withdrawal, ketamine weaponized to terrorize and maim: thecut.com/2020/06/elijah…
And while ketamine has very clear medical uses in appropriate doses and in safe settings, the case of #ElijahMcClain shows that officers weaponized it by calling upon old racialized drug tropes that once led officers to use bigger gauge guns and excessive force. Image
As we @DrugPolicyOrg have said before, we will say it again:
#DrugsAreNoExcuse.
The police killed #ElijahMcClain. Image

NEW: Aurora Police aren't yet telling the public what officers are seen doing in photos back at the spot where #ElijahMcClain was restrained. Chief Wilson learned of photos last Thu., before weekend protests. IA probe ended today. Only acknowledged when it leaked to media. #9NEWS
The timeline is important because we now know that, prior to the protests and the use-of-force during the violin vigil, Aurora Police:

- knew these photos existed
- were investigating the officers involved
- knew it was possible the public would eventually find out
We'll also be asking @AuroraMayorMike if he knew of the photos being investigated and when he learned of them. We were scheduled to interview him today about APD's use-of-force at the violin vigil but he canceled and directed us to the police chief. 9news.com/article/news/l…
