Today I was ratified as @CMA_Docs President-Elect, the beginning of three years supporting and leading the national organization that unifies Canadian physicians.

I’m the first Indigenous and Pacific Islander in this position. @CashinMD is the first Indigenous Board member this year.

I’ve been asked many times about what being in this position means in the context of being Indigenous. Recent #CMAagm has consolidated a few thoughts.

Living #Indigenous means pushing through structural #exclusion and #disempowerment. It gives unique insight into how to #empower the disempowered.

I’ll be making space for you at all the tables I’ll be invited to. If that space doesn’t exist, let’s create it together.

Meet George Kalichero, a young man from Mulanje district. George loves technology and he made his own windmill in order to power his home and others in his community however like many young people in Malawi, George has not received the support
promised to him by individuals and organizations which I know is a common story.

There was a story which is similar to George’s, and it got a lot of attention even a Hollywood film was made but the area in which the story came from still does not have electricity and George’s
dream is to improve the windmill so that there is better electricity for his village.

Q: What makes a #text credible, trustworthy and authoritative?

Many people think it's the quality of #discourse: that some ways of using #language make text more believable

Certainly true BUT: world leaders may talk complete nonsense and still command authority and get elected ImageImage
That is because "#authority comes to #language from outside” (Bourdieu, 1991, p. 109) Image

1/Tweetorial! Exploring a novel conceptual model of the clinical Learning & Working Environment (LWE) #MedEd
Do you wonder what the Clinical LWE *is*? Given the energy we put into making the LWE better, why is this still such a confusing question?
So - can you define the LWE?
2/In July 2017 an @AAIMOnline collaborative was tasked to recommend strategies for LWE improvement. In early discussions we realized we had no shared mental model of the LWE w/ which to systematically approach improvement. 2yrs later we are publishing a conceptual model.
3/Let’s start w/ the model & then explain its development:The LWE is the nesting of personal, relational, curricular, & structural domains as traversed by multiple learners, centered on the needs of individual or populations of patients, & influenced by the sociocultural context
