This claim here is absolutely historical revisionism. John Money did not create us, he was trying to erase and eliminate both trans and intersex people.

His notorious experiment on David Reimer was to try to prove there was no innate component to gender identity. #ThisIsGC
John Money literally believed that without a penis, that David Reimer would never get to be a true man, which mirrors almost exactly the attitude that the gender critical movement has towards trans men.
The experiment failed miserably because, as it turns out, gender identity is in fact a real component of virtually everybody's psyche.

As is the case with 98+% of people born with a penis, he naturally had a male gender identity and was given medically induced dysphoria.

Intersex Day of Remembrance

Today, November 8th, is Herculine Barbinā€™s birthday. Herculine is a French intersex person that was assigned a female gender at birth. After an affair with a woman Herculine was seized, examined and reclassified as male.
Today, November 8th is Intersex Day of Remembrance/ Intersex Day of Solidarity.

Today we also remember the countless intersex lives destroyed by societies, churches and surgeons that butcher and reclassify our young bodies to suit their needs and whims.
Youā€™ll hear people like jk Rowling and the family research council dismiss intersex existence in their war on trans people, but of course people that are both transgender and intersex exist.

1/ With tears in my eyes, and exhaustion in my (decalcified) bones, I want to take this opportunity to let you know the good news: Yesterday, around 5pm cst, @luriechildrens hospital in Chicago (the hospital where my intersex body was repeatedly violated) conceded to theā€¦
@LurieChildrens 2/ ā€¦demands of Intersex Justice Projects (@intersexjustice) 3+ year #EndIntersexSurgery campaign. Iā€™m still in shock. šŸ˜¶

This is the first time ever a hospital, to my knowledge, has both apologized and committed themselves to taking steps towards accountability.
@LurieChildrens @IntersexJustice 3/ Iā€™ll share their statement in another post, but in the meantime please read our response to this historic victory.

Weā€™ll be hosting a virtual press conference tomorrow afternoon at 12pm cst. Link to register is: bit.ly/2P9pScW

(1/4) I am a trans woman, physician and employee of @LurieChildrens Hospital. I categorically stand against the medically UNNECESSARY surgeries / interventions being performed on intersex kids by pediatric urologists at this institution and the complicity of my own dept Adol Med
(2/4) The intersex community, medical organizations like the AAFP, the WHO, GLMA and Lurieā€™s own queer and trans employees have been calling on Earl Cheng and others to cease these harmful interventions. Every time they have been dismissed and disregarded.
(3/4) I will not stay silent on the matter until these mutilations stopped. Intersex bodies are beautiful and perfect the way they are and any medical interventions should be up to the individual. NOT bigoted parents wanting a ā€œnormalā€ child, not hospitals, not doctors. PERIOD.

Two years ago (almost to the day), we released the nationā€™s first #intersex-affirming hospital policy guide along with @interACT_adv & @proskauer.

It's exactly what it sounds like. #EndIntersexSurgery lambdalegal.org/publications/iā€¦
Intersex people deserve self-determination, respect, & dignity.

As just one (of many) examples, we've been fighting in court for ALMOST FIVE YEARS on behalf of our client Dana Zzyym so that they can get... a passport. lambdalegal.org/blog/20200512_ā€¦

I am so hurt / sad / angry / upset yā€™all.

Thereā€™s some things related to my intersex body Iā€™ve recently found out that i havent given myself time or space to process.
You would think during quarantine I would have all the time in the world, but naw; I never stop thinking (about other things), moving, or working until I pass out tired at the end of each night.
Anyways, letā€™s start with what I thought I once knew about about myself. When I was 18, I discovered I wasnā€™t like other girls. My medical records read ā€œmale pseudo-hermaphrodite 46 XYā€ & other BS terminology that pathologized my healthy/beautiful intersex body.

I see people using intersex people as proof that sex =/= binary...which I agree with. But I also see people on here saying intsx ppl have disorders & are rare, so we donā€™t count... this is false & harmful. That thinking, peddled by ignorant doctors, leads to human rights abuses.
Intersex is just another BIOLOGICAL way of being human. . .Back in the day, we were labeled hermaphrodites, then intersex. When my community started to reclaim those words & organize, docs tried to pull the linguistic rug from below, & label us: disorders of sex development šŸ¤¬
Then when there was an uproar over being called disorders, these little bitch ass doctors were like oh weā€™re sorry, weā€™ll call you differences of sex development instead (DSD)...
