Before Brexit the UK was signed up to the water framework directive requiring EU nations to ensure their waters achieved “good” chemical & ecological status by 2027. @DefraGovUK & @EnvAgency have shifted this target to 2063! We must fight this in 2023. amp.theguardian.com/environment/20…

There's been an awful lot of sewage released by @SouthernWater in the last 24 hour 💩
This includes four separate releases that are over 20 hours long and still ongoing in Lee-On-Solent, Langstone Harbour and Ryde (IOW) which has TWO of them 🤮

Here's the list on ongoing releases, as of 8am.
As you can see Ryde has had a 25.72 hour release from its Appley Park outfall and a 23.42 release from its Prince Consort outfall.
So that's a combined 49+ of sewage there in a single day and its still going.

In it @mariacaulfield, MP for Lewes and Minister of State for Health, references last year's House of Commons vote on a sewage amendment to the Environment Bill, which we fought for and @Conservatives blocked.

In particular, on biodiversity, the long-term target for wildlife (10% increase on 2030 baseline by 2042) could see species abundance *lower* in 20 years' time than it is today.
That's not in line with the Government's 25 Year Plan promise to pass on #nature in better condition.

There's no target for the condition of SSSIs, despite the previous promise (below) that 75% will be in good condition by 2042.
