1/10 Battery storage in the Texas power market very likely to be a poor investment, but over 100,000 MW is now in the interconnection queue. Let's break down this down.⚡️🔋 #energytransition
2/10 It’s always been easy to develop power generation in Texas. Most battery storage projects are targeting a slim ancillary services market with a total of about 5k MW with over 3k MW already in operation. When supply > demand in power markets prices quickly collapse.
3/10 Long-lived assets to avoid saturating their market and collapsing profitability they need deep and durable markets. Yet in ERCOT, there's no capacity market (the deepest market). What's left is the energy market. But can it provide the necessary support? 🏭💡 #EnergyPolicy

📣 Thread on the recent debt ceiling deal between President Biden and Speaker Kevin McCarthy. The agreement brings new details to light. Do you agree or disagree with the deal? Here's a non-biased breakdown of the key components. 👇 #DebtCeiling #Biden #McCarthy Image
2/13
The cornerstone of the agreement is a two-year suspension of the debt ceiling, allowing the government to continue borrowing and pay its bills on time, if Congress passes the agreement by June 5th. #DebtCeiling #Congress Image
3/13
In exchange for suspending the limit, Republicans demanded policy concessions from Mr. Biden, such as limits on federal discretionary spending growth and new work requirements for certain food stamps and Temporary Aid for Needy Families program recipients. #PolicyChanges Image

In 2021, Europe imported ~158 Bcm of Russian #natgas.
By 2027, that figure is (supposedly) going to be 0 Bcm.

How do the Europeans get that done? Time for a 🧵
1/n Firstly, how does Europe plan to move away from Russian gas?

1. Moar US #LNG.
2. Increased energy efficiency.
3. More renewable energy deployment.
4. Healthy doses of optimism and idealism.

See @EU_Commission statement below.

ec.europa.eu/commission/pre…
2/n Specifically, within the EU's statement is the commitment to increase LNG imports from the US by:

15 Bcm in 2022
50 Bcm by [2027]

Seems pretty doable? Until you actually dig into it.

Our work on U.S. energy history is the subject of a new article by @yayitsrob at @TheAtlantic
In this thread, we’ll highlight some of the most exciting findings and figures from our research. 2/x

A historical puzzle: the U.S. is a strange outlier in its "energy intensity", using far more energy per dollar of GDP than most other countries, even over the same historical period. See our answer at bit.ly/3o8o8Qu. 3/x

Hello everyone! This is @AlexMillerPerry. I am taking over the @ItnMistral account today to share some information about myself and my research. Let's get started!
My research project is titled “Social Acceptance, Path Dependency, and the Low Carbon Transition”. I am examining the role of path dependency in the transition from fossil fuel based electricity to renewable energy sources (particularly wind energy). Image
You may be wondering what I mean by path dependency. It’s a concept that has evolved in the academic literature to try and describe the influence of past events and decisions on contemporary processes.

For energy transitions, it means that we need to take history into account.
