Today is “#EqualPayDay.”

There are a lot of ridiculous holidays—from “International Talk Like a Pirate Day” to “Have a Party With Your Bear Day” to “Bubble Gum Day.”
But “Equal Pay Day” is something worse. It’s a misleading effort designed to make women feel like they’re all, inevitably, being short-changed in their workplaces. That’s not the case.
Here’s the truth:
✅ Wage discrimination is illegal and has been in the U.S. since 1963, when the Equal Pay Act was signed into law.
✅ The 1964 Civil Rights Act also protects women from baseless gender discrimination in the workplace.

American women lag far behind fair pay for equal work. Women working full-time, year-round, are paid only 80¢ for every dollar paid to their male counterparts. The pay gaps are more severe for women of color: 61¢ for African American women and 53¢ for Latina women. Image
Women take home less money than they have rightfully earned in every industry, no matter their job, their level of education, or location. Not only is this a matter of basic equality and economic justice, it is also a significant issue impacting women’s retirement security.

Personal opinion alert. Getting really fed up of the pantomime around public sector strikes. The seeds of the current disputes were shown during the "emergency measures" during our economic crisis. Rather than cutting salaries across the board, Govt and Unions were happy to
throw new recruits under the bus. As if their lack of previous service made them undeserving of #Equalpayforequalwork. Socially divisive and cowardly.
Govt's credibility on #FEMPI was destroyed when politicians voted for reversal of their own pay (without any new productivity). Shocking lack of leadership or solidarity to those who are working the country out of a mess that they didn't cause.
